Look like inexperienced Danny Kalter is gone (?????) and Isa Ferras is the new special teams coach. I also noticed Kiki on ST. I've been critical but am glad to see a change to and experienced coach. I am curious that Andy's kick offs have been in play, I wonder if thatis by design or just a fluke. At least that part of the team has been exceptional. Anxious to see a big return by us though, Johnson looks good and will break one soon.

Im sure kalter is still doing special teams. Still baffles me after Marwan our special teams still suck.

I know we joke about every kicker sinking kicks on us but at some point that is on coaching. I can’t remember the last time we blocked a punt or fg? You actually can dial up plays for blocks depending on distance and the formation of their punt team. Please don’t get me started on the fake punts that was insulting to watch and Mario was ****ed on Joe rose following the Louisville game.

Traditionally kick off coverage and kick return is for younger players trying to crack line ups by showing effort. After that Louisville kick off return (some holds but no excuse) that was ******* **** poor effort I would’ve put in walk ons. Jimmy Murphy is an example he was just pure effort at 5’7”. Like rebounding in basketball it’s all effort.

I think our long snapper is sketchy he’s skipped a few on pat/fg attempts. Had a few slow snaps to Joyce also. The upside, Dylan Joyce booms it, Borregales is a monster if I’m being hyper critical he line drives his fgs which can lead to him being blocked, again on thats on the special teams coach to tweak that. I think Murray is going to be a good kicker and deserving of his ranking unlike bubba baxa who probably went to Kohl’s kicking since he was in elementary school to get that ranking.

Honestly feels like the university of Miami has treated special teams like it’s not even a phase of the game like all sfl hs teams.

(Sorry Im kind of a dork about special teams becuase I played it at this level)

I still see both in Staff Directory so who knows

Chris Johnson is 6th nationally in kick returns.

Ray Ray Joseph is tied for 32nd in punt return average.

There are 133 FBS programs. 101 of them don’t have a kick off return touchdown. 1 team has more than 1 kick off return touchdown. No team has more than 2.

You want to know how little blocked kicks matter? Florida State leads the nation in blocked kicks. They are 1-8. It’s actually a three way tie with Georgia Tech and Louisville so the ACC is the kick blocking conference. Clemson and Syracuse are in a tie for dead last in blocked kicks allowed with 5 while Duke, Virginia Tech and North Carolina are right behind them with 3. We have not had a kick or punt blocked this year.

I know a lot of us are used to ****** Miami offenses that couldn’t score in the 90’s and mid 2000’s so we had to rely on blocking kicks and returning kicks for touchdowns to actually score points but that’s not the case anymore. There’s actually very little correlation between teams who score on special teams a lot and teams who win championships.
