apart from calais campbell and big daddy vince, i cant think of any defensive linemen to be drafted from miami and playing significant minutes for any team in the nfl. vernon doesnt count because i could probably start for the deadfins right now. can you guys think of anyone else?

miami was once known for their ruthless defensive units and it always began in the trenches. this is the one area that has been severely under recruited over the course of the last decade and it shows not only in our teams, but also in the league with lack of representation at DT/DE. with a better d-line, this team would be much better despite our youth.

I think it has a lot to do with our standards. Hard to find top line dlineman. Even harder to get them into school here. And the pay for play schools dominate the market for the major dline talent.

We still had good lines in the mid 2000's. Baraka Atkins, Thomas Carroll, and the rest of the 2005 line was pretty good. Not sure of their NFL success, but they were good at the U.

Allen Bailey gets some minutes. Ojomo played a lot in the preseason. However, you are right, not a ton of NFL caliber big men.
