Nope.

The facts show that a 3-star is a 3-star, anywhere. Period.

Here's the full list of 3-stars from South Florida that we have signed since 2012 (not including current freshmen since it's too early to know what they'll become.)

Hopefully this kills the myth of the "underrated" South Florida 3-star. You've got a couple great players on here, and a whole lot of scrubs.

All South Florida 3-stars signed by Miami since 2012:

Danny Isadora
Herb Waters
JaWand Blue
Vernon Davis
Larry Hope
Gabriel Terry
Josh Witt
David Thompson
Walter Tucker
Mike Smith
Ryan Mayes
Trayone Gray
Tyre Brady
Marques Gayot
Nick Linder
Terry McCray
James King
Terrance Henley
Sheldrick Redwine
Robert Knowles
RJ McIntosh
Darrell Langham

Here you can see all players from the state of Florida taken in the 2017 draft:

There were a total of 13 three-stars taken, and there were a total of 179 draft-eligible three stars in the state of Florida that year.

That means that 7.2% of Florida 3-stars were selected for the draft.

In the entire United States, 90 3-stars were picked out of 1202 total that were eligible.

That means that nationally, 7.4% of all three-stars that were selected for the draft.

Florida 3-stars = everyone else's 3-stars.

That's not terribly persuasive to me. If you want a better comparison, take all 3*s from a class and determine % drafted. Do the same for Florida kids that same year. Compare the percentages. If the numbers are close, then a 3* is a 3*. Otherwise...

Case by case bases but it’s clear a guy like Dee Wiggins isn’t a 3star. You can just see his talent and explosive. It really jumps off the screen

I'll do that. Would actually be interesting to see what the results are.

I was also going to go back and show how all the local south florida gurus around here were talking up guys like Trayone Gray, Tyre Brady, James King, Walter Tucker, Mike Smith, and Sheldrick Redwine, etc.... but I don't want to call anyone out.

But it's kind of funny in retrospect how some dudes look like world beaters when you have your South Florida shades on.

I agree on Dee Wiggins. But they wanted him from the jump and never wavered. That shows they were confident in their evaluation.

Yeah it could be possible we just get the wrong 3 stars from South Florida. I doubt that, but it's possible.

Consider who was picking the 3*s the majority of those years...

Those are all golden’s recruits and evaluations terrible comparison

Not really because OP is right in a way.. we do get a lot of "South Florida 3-stars > everyone else's 4-stars" on here and if that was always true then Randy Shannon would still be here since that all he seem to ever recruit.

For some reason these guys come to us then they suck but these same guys go to Wisconsin, vt, unc etc and they become ballers I wonder why?

You being Dee Wiggins up to PA where I’m from he’d be a top 100 player in the nation because of how he’d dominate.

Tyre Brady is a Balla. He is dominating at Marshall. He will be drafted in the NFL. Wish he could have kept his stuff together while at the U.

Done. Check the OP for the chart.

In the entire United States, 90 3-stars were picked out of 1202 total that were eligible. That's 7.4% of all three-stars that were selected for the draft.

So Florida 3-stars performed almost exactly even with the rest of America's.

Florida 3-stars = everyone else's 3-stars.

The quality of Miami coaching figures too heavily in this exercise (it has been pretty bad). It should be % of all SoFla 3* drafted vs % of national 3* drafted. Interesting stats tho.

It's not possible to look this up by just South Florida... can only be done on the state level.

We can see that 7.2% of Florida 3-stars are drafted, vs 7.4% of National 3-stars though.

And I can tell you just by browsing the list, that North/Central Florida are NOT dragging the average down. I see a lot of Venice, Apopka, St Petersburg, Sarasota etc next to the 3*'s on the list.

Well, with Golden and staff picking the kids and developing them, yeah, they will most like remain the same. That is NO longer the case!
