We don’t hear about South Florida pass rushers. But three of the best young pass rushers in the league (the Bosa Brothers and Brian Burns) come out of Broward County. Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon have made tens of millions and can still play. And the Miami Hurricanes have regularly finished in the Top 5 nationally in sacks led by Chad Thomas, Joe Jackson, Jon Garvin and Greg Rousseau.

This year, the story is length. There are some rangy, athletic prospects with tremendous growth potential. The quality drops off some after the top guys, but keep in mind that some of the players on the TE and LB lists could end up as pass rushers.

Dallas Turner, St. Thomas Aquinas (6’4, 230)- Clean prospect with high ceiling and high floor. American Heritage transfer. Broward County DPOY with 16 sacks. Twitched-up and covers a ton of ground when he has a runway. More straight-line than lateral at the moment. 3.6 GPA. Plays down but has the athleticism to stand up if necessary. Basketball player with length. Lines up as goal-line WR and has the coordination to go up and over defenders. Tore his ACL as a sophomore but is fully recovered. Offers from Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and Miami.

Jabari Ishmael, Columbus (6’5, 210)- Freakishly long prospect with his best football ahead of him. Son of longtime UM strength coach. Wins with length and straight-line speed. Still developing a pass rush ****nal. Plays some off-ball LB for Columbus, which shows his movement skills. Stronger than you’d think given thin frame. Needs to improve pad level to unlock full potential. Offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and the Florida schools.

Patrick Payton, Northwestern (6’5, 215)- Miami High transfer. Played safety as a sophomore (sound familiar?) before moving to DE as a junior and putting up double-digit sacks. Not on the Rousseau level of freakiness but plays a similar game. Makes a lot of plays from backside with length and quickness. Dominated a good Columbus line. Stands up and plays down. Finds the ball and plays with awareness. Offers from Miami, Florida, Penn State, Louisville and Mississippi State.

RJ Sorensen, University (6’4, 240)- Recent Nebraska decommitment who plays like an off-brand Bosa brother. Explodes from a low coiled stance. Hard-working, well-schooled pass rusher who knows how to use his hands. Has some tightness but enough athleticism to be effective. Eleven sacks as a junior. Offers from Kentucky, Louisville and Indiana.

Jah-Mal Williams, Cardinal Gibbons (6’4, 215)- Long player with a developing frame. Gets a lot of deflections. Solid athlete with the ability to change directions and beat ballcarriers to the sideline. Still has room to grow as a pass rusher. Offers from Louisville, Arizona State, Syracuse and Utah State.

Jeremiah Peters, Booker T (6’4, 206)- Thin pass rusher with enormous production. Put up 37 TFLs and 25 sacks for the state champion Tornadoes. Plays all over the front and stands up. Deceptively strong. All arms and legs coming off the edge but has the ability to bend and change directions. Verified 4.55 shuttle. Solid with his hands. Offers from Kentucky, Toledo, Western Kentucky and FIU.

Isaiah Finnie, McArthur (6’1, 205)- Hybrid with some juice off the edge. Stands up for McArthur and projects as a rush OLB in college. Plays with energy and will give chase. Flashes nice spin move. Needs to improve overall flexibility as a tackler and rusher. Offers from FAU and Utah State.

Justice Cross, Deerfield Beach (6’2, 225)- Physically strong 3-4 OLB. Loves to pick up ballcarriers and manhandle them. Has experience as down linemen but projects better standing up. Offers from FAU and Colorado State.

Anthony Coaxum, Western (6’3, 230)- Big-bodied DE plays with nice pursuit. Claims offers from FSU and UF.

Good stuff @DMoney that's a very diverse group. RJ Sorensen seems like a interesting under the radar type SDE, you mentioned he was a little stiff at 240lbs, can you see him adding 40lbs and moving inside to play the 3 Tech. Although I highly doubt that he is 6'4" I am thinking more like 6'2" at the most.

I think that's his future as SDE/3 tech flex type. He has very good hands and plays with excellent leverage. Channing Crowder has a good one out there at U-School.

This looks like an underrated year in sfl for these guys. Lots of interesting prospects. Even Jah-mal, Jeremiah, and Coaxum all look like potential senior year expñoding type guys.

agree with you paranos, about Sorensen look ing like an interesting prospect at either an edge setter or a more aggressive inside 3-tech eventually.

At this point hoping for Ishmael and Payton.

Character matters. Our top three character guys were our first three picks this weekend. Jeff Thomas and Trevon Hill still haven’t found a team.

We were excited at the time, but in retrospect, the culture was poisoned when Manny did the following:

1) Convinced Jarren to stay;
2) Signed an OC with the idea that he would “fix” Jarren and the other QBs;
3) Begged Jeff to come back;
4) Signed Hill after he got kicked out of another program;
5) Signed Tate after he quit another program; and
5) Tweet bragged about all of the above.

We need to learn our lesson going forward. There are no short-cuts. The only way to build a culture is to be careful and consistent about who you let in the building. That is the secret at Clemson.

Considering 2021 SDE RJ Sorensen is a workout worry and supposed film junky, is he the type character player you had in mind for Miami to recruit moving forward.

Coaxum would commit to UM if offered...Has been vocal about that on twitter for 2 years. I'm not sure that offer would come, but he intrigues me as a kid who could grow into DT. Excellent motor. Reminds me of P.Bethel a little.

You’re crazy. I’ve watched Anthony since he was little and he never had P5 athleticism. Comparing him to Pat is laughable.

The 2022 DE class for South Fla will be special, quite possibly the most loaded I've ever seen.

This year is a very thin crop of talent at DE, it's basically 2 at the top & a number of tweeners with some upside.

Ja'Corey Hammett is projected as a standup LB in college in the same role as Sam Brooks, but he's currently an Edge rusher on the opposite side of Payton on MNW's DL.

But from this group we should land Ishamel easy for obvious reasons, if not Pops needs to find a new gig.

No shot with Turner, he's going to UGA or Bama. Sorensen seems B1G bound.

Payton probably won't be a take in this class unless we miss on others ahead of him, but he's an intriguing prospect to look after. He's more of a developmental player that will need a year or two in the S&C program before he's ready to hit the field.

Yeah I didn’t mention turner because I figured Bama or Georgia. lol.

given the guys we’ve signed or will have on the roster, though, a guy with Payton’s upside seems ideal to develop for a year or two (adding Ishmael to that group, too). He would walk into Phillips, Harvey, the three Williams, Blisset, and possibly Ishmael. Even one of the other long, athletic kids on that list look intriguing as more of a developmental second guy.

definitely a very interesting group.

Speaking on 22 class, what's the UM connection with Wilfredo Aybar out of CT? Didn't his dad work in our recruiting department or something? You know if we have a real shot there?

If you had to pick one LCE...Hammett vs. Payton. (I know they are similar)

Idk if it was his dad but he was related to someone who used to work on Miami's staff & as far as our chances, who knows. He's said he plans on visiting in June if the Quarantine shutdown clears up, so we'll see.

But for the 22 class, the top DE's on the board will be Shemar Stewart, Kenyatta Jackson, Francis Nolton, Dante Anderson & Daniel Lyons locally, with guys like Enai White, Aybar & others nationally.

Played against Sorensen, Williams (cgibbons) and Peters last season, coach one of the other guys.

-Sorensen is a hustle technique guy. DMONEY write up is exactly what i took when scouting to play him. He has big length he is like 6'3-6'4. But he has a motor. He's a fit in the Big 10..he will likely be a 270-280 pd DE. Not as twitchy as our ends typically are.

Out of all of them behind Turner to me being the most twitchy is Isiah Finnie and i know im bias. Kid is all get off and coiled up aggression. About 6'1 210...needed himt o get some off the ball work this spring as in college i believe that would be his thing. But check the first play in his highlight against Cardinal Gibbons and a Tackle with offers. Thats typically what he does. Finnie reminds me of Nate Harris. A former Um commit from Miami Edison that ended up going to Louisville and making it to the nfl.

This is him on the edge....

Bully..has WVU offer, Miami offer (dont know if commitable) NC STATE

Do we have any form of a shot at Stewart? I don't want to be negative, but realistically, we don't usually fare too well with guys who are 5* from South Florida. Maybe Rousseau will help with him?
