as you know there are 1000s of posts on Coach D versus Shannon etc...Coach Lubick was probably the BEST DC we ever had...2 rings, 89, 91 and 92 team only gave up like 10td all year..
Was talking to our local head football coach here at North High in Fort Myers this weekend..the discussion was on our D etc...
he remembered a camp in 88 at Miami where Sonny was asked how so you defend the sweep that is used so much in HS football ( veer to some)..with everyman being blocked..he said the MLB HAS to make the play..another coach said but we face larger tight ends that take the MLB out of the play, how can the MLB make the play...he calmly stood up and said we run into that with teams like NEB and OK in D-1..HUGE TEs and Olinemen ...you must have your MLB make the play...and if he cant you find one that will...
