Yes, I know, the defense has been struggling, *insert hypocrital fire Golden comment here* and the play calling has been questionable *insert angry fire Coach D comment*, and the performance of players as well

BUT

I have noticed, that the players on our defense that have been showing flashes of brilliance (Howard, McCord, AQM), are all Golden's recruits from the past 2 classes (outside of Perryman obviously who was in Golden's 1st actual class)

So, IMO, I say give it an offseason, and the defense will be IMPROVED, not lockdown, but improved (mainly because next year we will more than likely be starting 2 freshman at DT or atleast getting very signficant playing time, and potentially inserting all new LB's (but I have more faith in the backups this year than I do in the in Gaines and Cornelius)

How do you think the Defense will be in this upcoming season pending the staff stays the same? (which is very likely)

If we returned everybody from last year and didn't improve one iota... what makes you think we'll improve next year?

I think the regression of the offense this year due to injury and people adjusting to what we're doing has hurt the defense, it's a dynamic that didn't occur last year, therefore before the offense started declining I think the D was playing better

How are you defining "regression of the offense"? We are scoring more PPG in 2013 than we did in 2012. I'm not 100% sold on Coley but the problems on defense have absolutely nothing to do with our offense, IMO.

McCord and AQM have done nothing the last few games.

Like I've said though I don't really blame the players for not making plays. When you teach passivity, are on your heels the whole game, its difficult to make a big play.

It goes deeper then talent. Yes we are lacking in certain areas, but we have enough talent to beat VT and Duke soundly. This team has underachieved and barely skated by some really mediocre teams. Coaching and player development have been atrocious on the defensive side of the ball. Game planning is god awful. Players cant line up right and still dont know who to cover in year 3 of the system. Defense, when simple yet effective is installed, it doesnt take long for the players to execute a high level. Its been 3 ******* years and we cant stop the run or pass in any circumstance. When the season ends, Ill post some glaring defensive figures from AG's career as HC. Whether its Donofrio or Golden that is indeed the problem...changes need to be made.

I never supported the Shannon era and to this day, I despise the man for what he left us. As bad as Shannon was, his teams were never this bad defensively and the talent was awful! EXAMPLE:--- Brandon Harris, Ryan Hill, Randy Phillips, Vaughn Telemaque, Ray Armstrong, Chavez Grant are not better then Howard, Bush, Jenkins, Gunter, Crawford, Burns, Carter, but they achieved the number 3 pass defense! WE ARE CURRENTLY SITTING AT 59TH!!!

Ever hear the saying: Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS)?

Its been evident for 3 years that the kids are having a difficult time grasping this defensive concept either wise, we'd be yielding better results. It took Pruitt 2 games to realize the scheme he wanted to implement would not coincide with the current talent on FSUs roster. Now that is not to say "It will never work at FSU" , but wont be working optimally with the current given roster.

We need to see adaptation, adjustment, and accountability. We currently have none of that whatsoever. Something needs changing and ASAP. We are about to be win less in November...

Coaching. When it doesn't exist, you must get some. Meanwhile, keep them athletes coming.

I think we've improved in a lot of areas actually... More Sacks, More INT's, allowing fewer yards (only by 85.9 yds less which isn't stellar, especially when that only takes us down to 400 ypg) and giving up 5 points per game less. Granted, in losses, we're giving up 6 ppg more than last year. I'M NOT SAYING OUR DEFENSE IS GOOD, but you stated we didn't improve one iota, when actually I just proved that we've improved in every major defensive category outside of turnovers, but we have one less turnover, in two less games so far.

AGAIN, I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH, I'M NOT SAYING OUR DEFENSE IS GOOD, BUT IMPROVED? SLIGHTLY.

I think it's reasonable to argue the reasons for our defensive failure. I don't think it's reasonable to assert that we are improved. We aren't. Whatever statistical improvement we have can be directly attributed to that pathetic early schedule. Otherwise the D is a cold ****.

Most of that is due to the awful schedule. We racked up stats against SSU, USF, FAU, & UF.

Those scoring offenses rank...

SSU - NR (they are 1-11 and scored no more than 27 pts this season in the MEAC)
USF - 121st
UF - 112th
FAU - 92

So spare me the fake stats and "improvement." I see no fvckin difference.

Hopefully the DT's in the 2014 class will help.

You mean like Stuckey? Who just decommitted from us and is going to Auburn?
Or Valentine? Who is now wavering in his commitment & is considering making LSU his new home?

Can you blame them?

Another point I'd like to make, I keep on seeing, "these players have been in the system for 3 years now, how come they are still terrible?!?!"

I think we need to look at it this way. Notice how all the players that are STRUGGLING THE MOST, are SENIORS. I think that part of the failure of the defense is a combination of starting players that weren't recruited by Golden and weren't recruited to play in this system, i.e Highsmith, (who wasn't very good to begin with) Gaines, Porter, Cornelius, and Rodgers

You can teach a dog to swim, but that doesn't mean he'll be as fast as a fish

The players who have shown the ability to be forces. Perryman obviously, Howard, Bush (when healthy and confident, but he'll get back on track), McCord, AQM, Chick, and Jenkins (iffy right here, but he's come up with some big plays so I will give him the benefit of the doubt) were all recruited to play in Golden's system.

It seems to me, that Golden's recruits are fine, and the struggles they are having are the same learning struggles that ALL UNDERCLASSMEN HAVE.

Just seems to me that the biggest issues as far as personnel performance goes on our defense, come from the Senior class (no disrespect, they are great humans and athletes, just in the wrong system.)

Yes, because stuckey couldn't get his dumb a** in

and Valentine chose UM is on record for saying he is very big on early playing time, which he has no shot of getting at LSU. So yes, you can blame them.

We played bad teams last year as well

BC- 104
VT -75
USF - 96
Virginia - 81
Bethune Cookman - 90th (if you took their YPG in FCS and transferred it to FBS, which they would have done much much worse)

And personally, that UF number is very skewed, they had a healthy team against us, now they are a sprained ankle away from becoming eligible to play nursing homes
