Some thoughts on Week 10 of college football, which I spent doing the latest Footballpalooza at Coach JB's Football Bar and Cigar Lounge..
- Huge win for Ryan Day and Ohio St. To lose two regular season games with this roster would've felt like a buzzkill (even though they would probably still be in the playoffs). The Buckeyes Oline held up pretty well and after getting down 10-0, they steadied themselves and played a really tough game in Happy Valley
As for Penn St, I just wonder if Beau Pribula would've been useful in certain situations in place of Drew Allar. Nittany Lions are a well-rounded team but I thought they lacked a real consistent threat outside. There is now growing discontentment over James Franklin and his inability to win these type of games
- Louisville brought an end to the Clemson run (which came against a lot of ACC bottom feeders). The clock/game management of Dabo Swinney in the 4th quarter was bizarre. Down 3 scores, they just kept grinding up the clock and played with no sense of urgency. Cade Klubnik played his worst game of the season post-UGA
As for the 'Ville, Isaac Brown, has natural football speed. A true game breaker at running back for the Cards. A Brohm-led Louisville program will consistently be a tough out in the ACC
- Kurt Cignetti is the coach of the year, but Miami's old offensive coordinator, Rhett Lashlee, should be invited to the banquet for the job he'd doing at SMU. They blew out Pitt and our looking like they will make the ACC title game.
I always felt Brashard Smith was underused as a Miami Hurricane, but he has flourished as a running back at SMU. With his ability to play running back, slot WR and return kicks, he will be a guy that will have an NFL future..
- **** shame to see DJ Lagway go down. He has real arm talent.
- Carson Beck is now a bit of a liability for UGA. He's become a turnover machine
- In year 3 of Lincoln Riley, USC fell to 4-5 after losing to a mediocre Washington squad. If Trojan fans weren't restless before..
- If USC and LSU played right now, who would you pick? It goes to show you that college football really is a week-to-week sport where things can change dramatically
- Speaking of which, Oregon is another example. This isn't the team that scuffled in September. Right now, they are clearly the #1 team in the country based on their play and resume'
- Watching Omarian Hampton run through and around Florida St, you wonder if the Noles are really just that bad, or have they quit -- or a lot both. This is by far the worst FSU squad in my lifetime. Bobby Bowden is rolling over in his grave
- Forgot to mention this yesterday, but OJ Frederique should be a freshman All-American, and Elija Lofton has earned a bigger role in the Miami offense moving forward
- Gotta give UCLA and Deshaun Foster credit. They are making progress in year 1 of this tenure. Big win for the Bruins at Nebraska. Its not actually hopeless for the football program near the city of Los Angeles.
- South Carolina might be the best 5-3 team in the country. They are 'thisclose' to being 7-1 versus a tough schedule. Their defensive front is loaded (Kennard, Stewart, Sanders) and Lenorris Sellers is developing as a dual-threat QB
