It's hard to spin Mario striking out on his first guy after taking a month. I can understand rushing and interviewing only to have someone decline but if you take a month it should be obvious if the guy you're going to offer is going to accept.
Dude is a HC with a 45-27 record and the most talented team in the MAC after his recruiting.

It would have been a **** of a pull to get him to accept an OC position.

Classifying this as "striking out" and as an indictment on Mario is just dumb to me

If the DC is the DC I’m hearing...

Honestly, I feel the OC will go into mid February.

DC early late Jan/early Feb.

I just feel like the NFL is just a factor here, wether it’s Whipple, Johnson in Philly, Dorsey, etc.

Mario wants to lock in the recruiting and once signing day is over probably when he will have more time to focus on that.

If it’s earlier then I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Well it was a strike out. But you don’t stop putting Barry bonds up to bat because he struck out a couple times…

Yeah I wouldn't go nearly as far as he did. Is the timeline questionable and breeds concern? Sure; but to say he's "striking out" is way too much. This isn't his first rodeo, but to him, it's the most important one of his career.

I think signs are pointing to this getting going soon, so let's see what's in store.

Can we talk about Jake Spavital for OC?

Coached under Gus Malzahn, Dana Holgerson, Kliff Kingsbury, Kevin Sumlin, Mike Gundy.

Coached QBs like Brandon Wheedon, Geno Smith, Johnny Manziel to record setting seasons and got arguably more out of these guys than the NFL could get out of them.

Current HC at Texas State making $800k a year, but he took an entire class of transfer portal guys last year and is now persona non-grata with Texas HS Coaches. He's a dead man walking at one of the hardest jobs in D1.

This seems like a better option than Candle, Briles, Ponce, etc. That's an elite QB coach pedigree.

What do the scheme guys think?

He was with Sonny Dykes at Cal too, he didn’t call plays though.

He was pretty solid at West VA with Holgorsen, when Will Grier was their QB, that 2018 season they averaged 40 points per game (for the scoring guys)...

It’s really hard to win at Texas State, they haven't had a winning season since the David Bailiff era, so maybe he could be enticed to leave with a big enough contract offer, but at the same time it’s rare for a G5 HC to actively take a demotion. (Although I would even argue that being OC at Miami is a better job than being HC at Texas ST lol).

If they fired him, I’d take him in a heartbeat, but I think he might wanna stay there & keep trying to turn them into a respectable team until he gets fired.

But we should still take a shot, all he can say is no.
