Your willing to over pay for a 1year G5 playcallingDC??? Lol

It's not my money.
It's not Mario's money.

The point is everyone was touting our new budget and that we're now a "big time" program committed financially to winning. So we go out and pay Mario $8 million a year and talk about our huge stuff budget, only to turn around and not get his top defensive coordinator target because of a buyout?

It's a false rumor or we aren't really ready to splash it around.

At least plan B/C or whatever was solid.

So you wanted to just stick it to the G5 program and say we take what we want… instead of getting the best bang for our Buck getting the best DC….

I like Belk but I don’t like overpaying on a buyout and then paying him top 5 DC money on a dude whose only play called one season

Usually agree with your sentiments but I dont know if theres enough evidence to confirm that assertion

If the rumor about his buyout being too high is true, then what I wanted was for our head coach to be given the money to get his top guy and not have to bargain bin shop.

If the sentiment is everyone trusts Mario and he's their guy, then if he thinks Belk is worth it make it happen.

Ridiculous take. Just because you have lots of money if your top target gets ridiculous with his demands, especially if at this point he's all potential and little actual accomplishment, you don't just overspend for the sake of overspending. Especially when you can turn around and pick up a high end PROVEN coach.

A "buyout" isn't a demand.

Belk(overpaid) or Steele at let’s say 1.6ish a year no buyout needed

Is it really that important to feed your ego to get Belk?

Who says Mario thought Belk was worth it?

There's more than a buyout involved, there's the contract. Belk is unproven potential. Pretending Steele is a "bargain bin" choice is laughable. He is a proven, successful DC.

I mean it seems clear Steele wasn’t choice one. He took another job recently so I’m sure he spoke with Mario but if I had to guess he was option 2. Still not a problem and I hope the other 2-3 coaches on defense are elite recruiters

So, let’s just say Belk signed a contract at $1M/yr for 2 years and the buyout was the full contract at $2M (which is ridiculous but let’s make the argument). Then, you have to pay him $1.5M to hire him.

So, to hire Doug Belk to call defense, you are paying $3.5M in 1 year. A guy who has called a defense for 1 year in the AAC. There is no way, no how, no program that is doing that. It’s beyond dumb and beyond a waste of resources.

No one knows what the contract was, etc but no sane football program is doing that for Doug Belk in 2022. If that was the requirement, then that is why he is at Houston next year.

I’m pretty happy with Kevin Steele personally.

If we can hire a stud DB coach like Raymond I’ll really like the Steele hire

He has HC experience, NFL experience and knows what it takes to compete in SEC

The lists of positives drastically outweighs any negatives
