so did al turn down PSU or did PSU turn down al?

Agreed that the thread merging has made trying to find particular information impossible. This is why no one posts on Canesinsider. Beware of the thread ****'s over here.

99.999% on here dont know **** but majority claim to have a neighbor's, 2nd cousin's, best friend's, girlfriend's, next door neighbor's younger brother's best friend who has "inside info"

Don't know, don't care. He interviewed for another job that he wanted and got caught. Very hypocritical for a man that talks about loyalty.

The post i have been reading from Al himself on here. Seems he shot them down cold

You'll never convince me that he interviewed with PSU just as a courtesy, and opened up himself to criticism, and his recruiting class to poaching in the process, but then turned down the job. Since he's an alum, PSU's AD probably told him that they wouldn't refute claims he turned down the job so he could save face when he told him and Dorito to beat feet out of his office.

All the PSU sites said Al was main target. All of them so it is safe to say he turned them down. He might had incentive to turn him down b/c of coach No D

No it isn't. Just because he was their main target doesn't mean that they were still interested in him after bringing him in for an interview. And if he really didn't want the job, why did he interview for it? Why the week of total silence from him? If he didn't want the job, wouldn't an immediate statement or press conference squashing those rumors be the normal course of action? Why put a crucial recruiting class in jeopardy? Why give (more) ammo to opposing coaches to feed to HS kids about how you won't be around for very long?

I guess the PSU AD wasn't impressed with Golden's 400 page binder.

Kirby Hocutt is such a dumb ****

Per Source: Deal was done w/ #AlGolden yesterday, interviews w/ #MikeMunchak & #JamesFranklin made him walk, not money or staff #PennState

As NVA said, it's irrelevant. He obviously wanted the job.

Sounds like Golden was going to leave Miami like a thief in the night (sort of like Graham of Arizona State did Pitt last year).

It would have been extremely negligent for Penn State not to interview other candidates. You interview candidates just in case the guy you decide to hire decides to bounce. That's just the way it works. LOL at Golden feeling entitled for the job.

With that said, I don't why Golden withdrew his name... Franklin seems like he's going to be a job-hopper and IMO will eventually go to the NFL. Munchak has never coached in the college ranks and seems like a guy that will get another NFL gig and will be there regardless.

IMHO, we're going to have to go through this bullcrap again if the next hire decides to leave.
Therefore, the best case scenario for everyone is for:
1) Doritos to find another job (since Golden messed him up to get the Temple job),
2) Miami to hire another DC not from the Penn STate/Temple/UVA coaching tree,
3) Miami to ball out and win the national championship within the next 2-4 years,
4) Golden to move on to Penn State (or the NFL).

If you think about it who turns down their dream job, he is from the area, he played at PSU, his coaching mentor coached there, and they were offering more money, so what legit reason would he have to turn down his dream job

Doubt anyone outside of the Penn St and Al Golden camps will ever know the answer. Does it really matter though?
