Smart players

That’s what we need more of…How many times have we seen somebody do some dumb **** that hurt the team from penalties to letting the ball roll past them on special teams
Better question is how many times have you seen that player that has done some stupid crap get chastised on the sidelines for doing whatever stupid stunt he pulled?

I’ll answer that rarely if ever.

We haven't had many smart players since 2001-2003...we are consistently one of the dumbest teams in the nation, which is why we do "less with more." But is it really less with more when these four and five stars are STUPID? Cam and Restrepo are the rare exceptions.

I think this is one of the most important things.

Everyone can be big, strong, fast.

You need to be smart to have the edge in modern football.
That starts with the coach. Coaching can really give the true edge. Like Im pretty sure Guidry taught these guys how to line up properly? Right? Taught them how to keep angles and keep contain? Right? He wouldnt call a safety blitz on 3rd and 8 and leave our struggling CB one on one? Right? Oh wait.................

I agree. For 20 years, this board and other Canes fans has fallen in love with 5 star athletes with negative 3-star intelligence. What good is a 40 time if you are constantly out of position? What good is an arm that can throw the ball 65 yards if you cannot read defenses? After Mario finishes failing here, the next coach you hire should be someone who has had a proven record of success at multiple programs not just one. They know the kind of player that they want and they have their own established system and they recruit very specific players to fit in with that ideology. Miami needs a hive mind. One voice, one vision, one team marching in the same direction. Jacolby George wouldn't be on that team. Tyler Baron wouldn't be on that team. Sam Brown wouldn't be on that team...

Did anyone say anything to George after the penalty? I know Moten went to the sideline and no one said a word to him. I get the game was over at that point, but you should always be coaching them up. But when your HC looks confused on the sideline all the time, what do you expect?

Just wondering, when yall were extolling the praise on our defense last year, I don’t recall any of these kinds of comments. Did we get dumb over the last year?

We ran off arguably our smartest player (Flagg) and look where that left us. Lol

Agreed.

Xavier Restrepo is our best WR by a mile but he isn't anywhere near Sam Brown or Isiah Horton in terms of NFL Combine stats ie: 40 time + height weight.

Some of the best defensive players we've had weren't all word athletes but they were smart... Jaquan Johnson, Kam Kinchens, and Denzel Perryman.

We've recruited these players before. They're from SFla but not divas.

Never understood the hate for Flagg...kid gave everything he had and made some big plays last year. Maybe not the most athletic player, but smart and hard-nosed which we could have used more of this year
