Sitkowski to Rutgers

Rivals article that pretty much says what most of us feel:

Miami fans were at least a little surprised when longtime quarterback commit Artur Sitkowski changed his commitment from the Hurricanes to Rutgers on Wednesday night. The change of heart came in the midst of a memorable Miami season that sees the Hurricanes in the early hunt for a College Football Playoff spot.

Sitkowski, who plays his high school football at IMG Academy, is originally from the Northeast, and Rutgers, his home state school, seems to be taking a step or two forward from the disaster of years past. How big of a loss is it for Miami? We analyze it on a local, regional and national level and take a look at what’s next for Miami.

“I don't see this as a big deal at all for Miami. Malik Rosier has to be considered a frontrunner to hold the starting job through next season, Evan Shirreffs still has two years left and N'Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon are both redshirting this year. it didn’t look real favorable for Artur unless he was able to come in and outshine at least Perry and Weldon. It probably is a better opportunity for him right now at Rutgers.” — CaneSport.com publisher Gary Ferman

REGIONAL REACTION

This is a nice get for upstart Rutgers, but I’m not sure how much it hurts Miami. Sitkowski is in the midst of an uneven senior season at IMG, so it’s unclear how hard the Hurricanes even fought to keep him. Miami has two true freshman quarterbacks on its roster and hope to get involved with Jacob Eason should he decide to transfer from Georgia following the season. Add in the fact that Miami is having the type of season that may entice a player committed elsewhere to flip, and you get a broken commitment that doesn’t hurt much more than a prick of the finger. — Rivals.com Southeast analyst Rob Cassidy

NATIONAL REACTION

“I’ll give this a three only because he’s a quarterback and it’s so late in the process, but based on the way he has played this year, I have to imagine either Miami dropped him or they didn’t fight too hard to keep him.” -- Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell

Ivins says he has some "scoop" on who we go after. Anybody a VIP and sees what it says?

He names potential targets and gives reasons why you might be able to get them or not

Corral, Thompson, DTR, Adrian Martinez, Rodgers, Bonohan, Jarren Williams, Fortin, Foster and a Louisville commit.

He thinks they're should be only 3 we go after DTR , Corral, or Williams
Hopefully we go after bonohan. He is the only one uncommitted and would like to visit down here. When we went after Artur it showed richt just wants a project QB this class someone he can develop to possibly a starter maybe 3 or more years from now which is why it will be hard to believe corral or DTR would want to come here.

From 247 today....VIP scoop. Fo all those doubting brooklyndee

4-star QB Matt Corral (Florida commit) – It’s a little known fact that Corral actually visited Coral Gables in July of 2016 while he was committed to USC. At the time Miami wasn’t really interested in the U.S. Army All-American because of his pledge to the Trojans, but once Corral decommited from the local school he made sure to reach out to the Hurricanes before eventually committing to Florida. Jim McElwain’s exit in Gainesville reportedly doesn’t change a thing about where things stand with Corral and the Gators, but the looming coaching change could work in UM’s favor should they elect to get involved in the recruitment.

In other words, he quietly visited, reached out to us after he decommitted to commit to us, we said no, so he committed to the gaytors.

Corrals definitely really talented, but I'm not really sure I'd wanna take that risk at QB. If he was a DL/LB I'd be all over it. But you just don't want your QB getting into trouble, being a **** decision maker, etc.

But seriously, I'd bet money that Jarren Williams and Casey Thompson are our top two Qbs on the board right now.

I wasn't impressed with Fortin after watching his tape. Jarren Williams would be my first choice. And if we can't land him my floor for quarterbacks would be Jordan Travis. Watch Fortin and Travis's tape back to back and tell me who the better Qb is.

Travis is much better athlete, stronger arm with better throwing mechanics. Moreover I trust Petrino's Qb evaluations over Sumlin's.

Wow...SOME kinda scoop...

Poach a QB from a lower level P5 or G5 program that has shown a keen eye for finding under-the-radar QBs. I'd look at whoever Matt Campbell and Jeff Brohm are recruiting at QB.

Jack Plummer is committed to Brohm at Purdue.

Isn't Bohanon the only one uncommitted?

What are his pros and cons on him, according to the article?

Uncommitted looking at Baylor, Arkansas and Louisville. Big frame 6'3 220. Elite 11 finalist

Unless they know they can flip one of the higher ranked guys, seems like this guy should be the target.

Of course, the interest would have to be, legitimately, reciprocal. And with Rosier, Perry, and Weldon already on the roster, it may not be the best "business decision" for him. Unless he really believes in his ability.

Can't coach that size ...

Last time we took a QB from Arkansas, we got sucked into a horrible home-and-home with Arkansas State.

Just sayin'....

This is like an early Christmas gift.

Guy had terrible stats in Jersey and people wanted to see what he could do at IMG while stating his team ran the ball a lot. News flash, a running team typically frees the passing game up and guys like him never succeed at the QB spot. Cases in point here, Kirby Freeman, Gray Crow, and Jack Allison.

Richt has been in the business long enough to know the above facts. I don't know when they began their backpedal, but he should've never had an offer to begin with. Same for the IMG coaches, they got caught up only seeing Tarzan in gym shorts rather than looking at what happened on the field.

Good luck to the young man. No hard feelings, but I'm happy as can be we saw the light finally.

How about poaching Petrino's Qb who is from SFL?

Not a bad guy to poach from either.

I don't care where the QB is from. Just get me a guy with a decent enough arm who is accurate and makes plays in the clutch. I'll leave the big goons who can throw the ball through a brick wall in gym shorts but crap the sheets in games to the camp facquits.

I don't give a fck about camps and gym shorts when it comes to QBs. You can't teach being clutch, and I don't think you can teach much about being accurate either. I want to see QBs who get the job done in games.

I'd take a guy like Logan Woodside over every other QB I've seen play this year. I don't think he was this "can't miss" type of guy coming out of HS. He's super smart and accurate and makes plays with the band playing.

To be honest, we should have dropped him a month ago. He doesn't have the goods. Richt should make a pitch at Justin fields or Matt Corral. I actually think we have a legitimate shot to get Matt Corral.

"we should have dropped him a month ago"

Who says we didn't?

Take the glasses off.

Ok. I was just pointing out that UM can't comment so for all we know they did.
Unless the player comments on it you would never know.
I do agree I wish they would have tried with Fields.

I totally agree. I'm not one of those guys that thinks we should only recruit SFL players. I just think it will be easier to recruit one of these guys this late into the game.

Check out Jordan Travis's highlight from his junior season if you haven't done so already. I know its a highlight reel and I don't know how he is preforming this season but that's all we have to judge by. Watch for his ball placement. He is throwing dimes to the wide side of field!

Moreover, when the play breaks down watch him direct traffic, this kid is poised with chaos going around him. He doesn't seem to get rattled. I don't know if he is clutch or not bc I can't tell the situation he produced his highlights but they are impressive.

Also it doesn't hurt that his bro is a professional athlete. He will know what it take to get to the next stage.
