Shannon Dawson has a lot to balance in Week 1: a new QB, new communication rules and a raucous road atmosphere. He spoke to reporters about all that and more:

On the new communication rules: I personally like it, but I also haven't been through a game. I've talked to multiple NFL guys. The worry is, “Does it cut out? How consistent is it?” We obviously have things in place if it does cut out. But I don't know until I go through a game. IThe feedback I've gotten is, “It's pretty...

With new communications, where we playing and what not, we are going to be persistent in establishing the run and then take some calculated risks downfield (2nd and short, 1st and 10 on their side of the field, etc)

Ferman brought this up on his show, but curious how the communication and possible game day adjustments go. Sounds like Dawson will stay on the sideline but now have someone in the booth that will provide insight. My thoughts are it’s the new WR coach that was brought in, but unsure. Think that might help a lot.

In general I think the staff did a lot of self reflecting and made a lot of adjustments. Based on what I’ve heard in fall camp. Good sign

Yeah if Mario can go out and get a clock management coach then it’s pretty clear they had some honest conversations about what needed cleaned up

If that’s true that’s a good sign

What’s the name of the wr coach?

We better be ready to send plays on the field with signals, because I have no doubt that our helmet communications, and only ours, will wind up malfunctioning in the swamp.
You should always be. If the other team's mics malfucntion, both teams have to put them down.

And that has happened both intentionally and unintentionally...

Hopefully, they have the helmet communication set up in practice to simulate the real game with loud crowd noise barely able to hear without covering the earholes. Also, turn off the communication periodically to simulate Gator home cooking of ******** up our helmet communication.

Actually, I'm more concerned about the security of communication. If the CIA and NSA can steal Russian war communication in Ukraine, It can't be that hard to steal or jam communications to short signal helmets in the stadium.

Visiting NFL teams have complained that their helmet communication has malfunctioned during critical junctures in the game such as 2-minute drives and critical 3rd and 4th downs.

It should have never came to that! Hey, I all in for trying to improve or getting different levers in place for improvement. But come on! Mario came to Miami with 10 years of HC experience from FIU and Oregon. He had 6 at a non power 5 FIU and 4 at a Power 5 Oregon! He got to Miami at 51 years old! I watched and witness in the last 8 to 12 years young HC being hired from 33 to 41in the NFL. Everyone of them never had HC experience on any level. Yet, multiple games in the same situation as Mario with the opposing team having no more TO's, them have multiple downs and the clock less than 2 minutes. Everyone of them kneeled the ball. They didn't F around! They ran the clock and won the game.
