In today’s weekly press conference, offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson openly discussed the team's recent performance and offered insights into key moments of their game against Georgia Tech.

The Closing Sequence against Georgia Tech
Dawson took full responsibility for the decisions in the last sequence against Georgia Tech, stating, "What we did at the end was the wrong decision. I called it. Wish we would have done something different, but we didn’t." On inquiring about the communication process on the headset, Dawson remained private, emphasizing that what's said on the headsets stays between the staff.

Georgia Tech's Defense
According to Dawson, Georgia Tech didn't drastically change their defensive strategies. However, he acknowledged the team's shortcomings, emphasizing, "We shot ourselves in the foot."

Team's Offensive Performance
Dawson admitted that the team didn't play their best offensively. With turnovers and missed opportunities, the team left many points off the board. Despite that, Dawson praised the team's perseverance, highlighting their ability to climb out of difficult situations multiple times during the game.

Tyler Van Dyke’s Performance
Dawson defended quarterback Tyler's performance, noting his 70% completion rate. While acknowledging some critical turnovers, he emphasized that they weren't solely Tyler's fault. He lauded Van Dyke’s accountability and leadership, pointing out a notable play where he chased down an opponent after an interception, preventing a touchdown.

Run Game Assessment
Regarding the running game against Georgia Tech, Dawson believed they were efficient, even if they didn't have many explosive plays. He appreciated the offensive line's effort and saw potential for improvements in exploiting opportunities in future games.

On Red Zone Performance
Dawson attributed the team's lackluster red zone performance to self-inflicted wounds. He admitted some of the play calls in critical sequences could have been better and took responsibility for those decisions.

Team Dynamics and Moving Forward
While Dawson remarked he wasn't sure if every player was happy, he stressed the importance of supporting teammates. Looking ahead to their matchup against North Carolina, Dawson expressed respect for their defense and commented on UNC's reintegration of receiver Tez Walker.

Very few people in his position, after that game, would perform well in that press conference. He deserves the heat, but he’s not the man making $8mm a year. And I suspect his boss has started to influence the play calling because he can’t help himself. Think we’ll see more evidence of that this weekend.

Honestly I thought he sucked In that press conference.

Been a fan but his initial response and vibe was worse than his play calling Saturday night (prior to the non kneel)
everything about this game made no sense. Night game with lots of important recruits and we decide to go vanilla on O, when all season we haven’t. Against GT of all teams also. WTF

Both OC and DC aren’t great at the coach speak stuff.. which I love.

Both keep it real.. not that keep it political bs.. HC’s do, although I understand why they do..

I like Dawson. Idiotic call at the end, but not hating on his playcalling (although it was a little too vanilla on Saturday). Guys were running open on plenty of snaps and TVD simply wasn’t going through progressions. Zone obviously had him confused.

For what purpose? Why would he purposely dumb down the offense that had us playing so well and allowed us to beat ATM? Why? For what reason? Also if he goes to the GT game plan for the rest of the year like you seem to think then say goodbye to TVD because he will go right in the tank.

I worry that the relationship between TVD and X causes the overall production of the offense to decline. It's like X is option 1 every time when he should be option 3 when 1 and 2 aren't open. This is not knocking X. This is about distributing the football and TVD is locked in on 1 guy. I hope Dawson is coaching him up, because teams are going to take away Restrepo and then TVD is cooked if he's not going thru his progressions.

Also, I think it was reported that Restrepo had 20 targets. The other WRs have to be frustrated. I worry about the WR group splintering.

He also implied the pick was on the receiver, not TVD. Perhaps the wrong route or poorly run route.
The last pick in the redzone where tvd had to chase the guy down, it looked like an option route but with george in the slot. Usually its X or the TE doing an option route, george didn’t run it well hut i still thought the ball placement was off

It was the worst coaching and QB play of the season!! We can’t play like this next week or this is going to be ugly game

I almost took Miami TT over 38, thinking Miami was gonna put on a show for all the recruits

But then I remembered the bye week

TVD looked better when he sped the tempo up. But he refused to stay in that. And then continued to run the same **** running play.
