Living in Tennessee I usually don't get to listen to local South Florida radio, but after finding the best app ever, I now listen to QAM and other South Florida stations on my way to and back from work, and I caught parts of both shows today. Sileo mentioned this morning that youth was no excuse, and that Alabama has more freshman and sophomores on their roster. Sedano called him out on his show, and also proved just how young we are. Sileo said Miami has 63 freshman and sophomores while Bama has 79. While technically true, Bama also has 20+ walkons or something like that which inflates their numbers. But the real number, as Sedano pointed out was the fact that Bama plays 6 freshman and sophomores in the their first 22. Miami plays 14. Even more telling, out of total players who play at least 1/3 of the total snaps, Bama plays 12 freshman and sophomores, Florida 12 and FSU 11. Miami plays 32. That's not even taking into account the juniors and seniors we have playing. A lot of these guys shouldn't even be on the field unless it's mop up duty (Rodgers, Highsmith, Smith, etc.).
I hate excuses, but, sorry, we are young and it shows week in and week out. To ignore that is insane and shortsighted. Now that's not saying you can't hold the players or coaches accountable, and want more and better, but be realistic. I know everyone hates the "It's a process" talk, but it is. I wish it were different, but it's not. We're not Bama, and we're not going to be overnight, so until then, we really should see this season for what it is, the beginning stages of a rebuilding project.
