After the Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas running back and UM commit accepted his U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey on Tuesday, Scarlett said his recruitment is “kind of closed up.”

“Miami is just the school I’ve been always thinking about,” Scarlett said. “I committed there for a reason and I’ve heard plenty of rumors saying I’m leaving for FSU.

“I just had to let everybody know that’s not the case, and I hope my message was brought across very firmly.”

UM’s message to Scarlett has been clear-cut: The team sees him filling the role junior running back Duke Johnson has played over the last three seasons if/when Johnson opts to enter the NFL Draft.

“I’ll be that guy there,” said Scarlett, who committed to UM in July. “I’ll be the man on campus. All I got to do is just come there, stay focused and do what I’m doing [at Aquinas]. It should be a smooth transition.”

Yearby is a better running back. This kid has all world potential but he better not slack. Gray, Dexter Williams, Gus....there's no easy road to carries there.

Which is what we need drastically. Dexter, jordan, mark, joe yearby, and gray is just ridiculous to have in a backfield stable. As long as no one is skiddish of competition we should have the best ground game in the nation.

I respectfully disagree man.

Most people do. Scarlett's physical gifts are far superior to Yearby but Scarlett still isn't there yet like Yearby was coming in. I'm just saying if Scarlett expects to be in the mix, he's going to have to work his *** off.

Now this is the type of **** that I want to hear! That's what I'm talking about. **** FSU.

Love the confidence but he will have his work cut out for him.
McGahee backed up Portis and Gore even though he was more gifted athletically.
No gurantees in this game but having Yearby, Scarlet, Walton, and Williams finally resembles the back field of 2001. Competition will take all of these guys to another level.

Here is the RB/FB roster from 2001 Championship Team:
28 Clinton Portis RB Jr. 5-11 195 Gainesville, FL/Gainesville
32 Frank Gore RB Fr. 5-10 190 Coral Gables, FL/Coral Gables
2 Willis McGahee RB R-Fr. 6-1 225 Miami, FL/Central
4 Najeh Davenport RB Sr. 6-2 245 Miami, FL/Central
35 Quadtrine Hill RB Fr. 6-2 210 Sunrise, FL/Piper
34 Jarrett Payton RB So. 6-2 205 Arlington Heights, IL/St. Viator
3 Jason Geathers WR So. 6-3 210 Delray Beach, FL/Spanish River
40 Kyle Cobia FB R-Fr. 6-2 231 Lakeland, FL/Lakeland

Let's see:
*Duke = Portis
Yearby = Gore
Scarlett = McGahee
Gus = Davenport
Gray = Hill
Walton = Payton
Williams = Geathers
Tucker = Cobia

RB U!

*If he pulls a Ed Reed and comes back for his Ring.

This offense will be fun to watch with the above stable and:
QB: Kaaya
WR: Coley, Walters, Berrios, Malcom, Scott
TE: Dobbard, Herndon, Njoku
OL: Flowers, Isadora, Linder, McDermott, Gadbois, Darling, Gall, Odogwu

This can be a championship caliber offense next year if we get Duke and Flowers back.

Here is how the D will look:
DT: Jenkins, Huertlou, Kamalu, Wyche, Moten
DE: Thomas, AQM, McCord, Jackson, Patchan
LB: Kirby, Grace, Owens, Young, Perry
CB: Burns, Howard, Corn, A. Crawford
S: Bush, Carter, R. Jenkins, J. Johnson, D. Crawford

We'll have a better secondary and DL. LB is where we need to add more depth and try to replace DP. This defense has potential to be better next year and should be solid enough to keep us in most games.

Maybe we can get EJ back from JC, that would be awesome...

too long man, too long especially for the talent at the position here. A stable full of playmaking backs can certainly mask a lot of issues, especially with a stud like Kaaya back there.

I give Scarlett a lot of credit though. He's opting to join a program still seeking an identity and a loaded position. That takes confidence. I respect it. He has the talent and attitude to leave here one of the all time greats, I really believe it. It's probably why I'm a little tougher on him than other prospects. This kid can be GREAT, there's no way around it.

And just to add again, this was a supreme recruiting effort by the staff. Scarlett was a 0% chance not long ago. Monster job as long as we get him to sign.

with this O starting line up
do we need a JUCO TE to give upper class depth?
is there one of value out there?

Hes gonna get plenty of carries next season. A one-two punch of Yearby and Scarlett plus an improved Kaaya will have this offense humming next year.

Nah, I like the guys we have and most JUCOs expect to start like Sandland. I want Dobbard to get his shot and I think Njoku could be the receiving TE..

I think Yearby and Scarlett will compliment each other nicely. I don't think its an either/or situation.

Yes, but what about Gus, Williams, Gray, and Walton? I think the best 3-4 will play. Scarlett will be good but he will have to earn it.

I hope Williams comes in a become a good kick returner. Williams getting the ball in open field is where he will excel
