The Canes kinda-sorta have a 2nd bye week as they take on Savannah St. It sure is nice to have a game again. We've been living off that high from the Florida win for a while now. It's time to move on already and get another W.

For all of you that have been living under a rock for the past week, the Canes opened up laying 55 points to Savannah State. Double Nickels on the Dime, which also happens to be the name of a great album by the punk rock band The Minutemen (this is your Wikipedia read of the day). They're mostly known for their song "Corona" that was played at the opening of every episode of the TV show Jackass. Sun Life plays the opening guitar riff whenever opponents get flagged, because they're Jackasses for committing a penalty...get it? Why am I bringing this up? Because they're 10 times more interesting than tonight's game could ever hope to be. That's why.

By the way, that line has since moved to 60. It's the 3rd highest spread in college football since 1980. It's important to note that since 1990, the Canes have a record of 10-20 against spreads of 30 points or higher. Also, the last time UM scored 60+ was the 2002 opener against FAMU, and have only crossed the 50 point mark 3 times over the last 5 years. Now seems like as good a week as any break those trends. Hope you enjoy your money Savannah State, just don't spend it all in one place.

Who: Savannah St. Tigers (1-2) v. #16 Miami Hurricanes (2-0)

When: 7:00 pm/et

How:

4 storylines for UM in this game:

1. How many touchdowns will we score?
2. How many plays will the freshmen make?
3. How many plays will the walk-ons make?
4. Can we avoid significant injuries in this glorified scrimmage?

You can just name the score pretty much in this game. Remember what Duke Johnson did to Bethune-Cookman last year? Expect more of that. The only interesting thing to pay attention to though will be the play of freshmen like Stacy Coley, Artie Burns, Gus Edwards, Jamal Carter, Alex Gall, and my boy Figatron. There are others but those are who I'm most interested in seeing. Expect Garrett Kidd to catch ALL the touchdowns in the 2nd half. Nantambu-Akil Fentress will undoubtedly blow some horrible player for Savannah State into next week on kick-off coverage too. Just don't let anyone get a serious injury in this joke of a game.

What they're saying:

Noell Barnidge said:
With the Hurricanes looming, Wilson said he and his staff only spent a few hours enjoying the victory over Fort Valley State. "We began preparing for Miami on Sunday, looking at them (on film) and trying to figure out what we can do against them, and how we can continue to improve," he said.

The Hurricanes are ranked second in the nation in red-zone defense, allowing one rushing touchdown and three field goals in eight trips inside the 20-yard line. Miami quarterback Stephen Morris, a senior, has 6,180 career passing yards. He is 38 yards shy of No. 10 Jim Kelly in the Hurricanes' record book.

Wilson said he expects Miami to throw and run. He also believes the Hurricanes' starters will play well into the second half. "People think they're going to play their second- and third-string. I don't think they are," he said. "I've heard they only plan to play 19 guys on defense. Coach (Al) Golden is saying the same things we're saying about improving. Coach Golden was put in a tough situation with some of those kids, and I know he's trying to develop within them a sense of character and make them understand that they've got to compete for a job every week.

"When I get some more depth, especially on the offensive line, my guys are really going to have to compete every week. We have the plays to beat people."

$10 says some joke starts a meltdown thread after the game if we don't cover.

Can't find a depth chart or anything about injuries. It's not like any of you would know what they mean anyway. If you care that much, here's their roster. You can guess just as good as I can.

Checking in from Mexico. I want to score 80 on these clowns. On another note, I've seen three other guys at the hotel in Miami gear, and at breakfast this morning a guy in a Texas shirt came up to me and said, I hate the gators too. It took me a second to realize I was wearing my "ihatethegators" shirt.

mean while mark right and UGay are trying to hold off north texas who is trailing only 21-14

You guys might as well use the "N" word. You're about as camouflaged as a dealer parking a Lamborghini in front of a project apartment. These schools were founded because the Stacey Coleys, Artie Burns' et al, in the 1960's were not allowed on the other side of the tracks. Trust me all those Black players on the U roster have nothing but the highest of respect for these Schools and their family, friends and classmates that compete at this level.

Dan this is not an article, but an opportunity to disrespect members of the Canes and the previously mentioned institutions and the many family members who attend these schools. Remember if the same athletes choose to attend traditionally Black schools as many of their families members "had to" just a few years ago, Miami would be whipping boys today. You can't disrespect half of us and expect the other half to turn the other cheek. Its easy to hide behind cyberspace, but go look in the mirror and ask that guy if he would do the same in person. Probably not!

I get what you're saying and you're correct.

I do not know what "color" Dan is, nor do I care. I have never seen anything in his posts, nor in the post that started this thread, that should be interpreted by a reasonable person as being racist.
