The bottom line is that Alabama and LSU have become the Miami and FSU of today. If y'all wanna hate on Bama and LSU, go ahead but your hatred is misdirected IMO. We need to right our own ship.
I remember when we had the most players in the nfl draft every year - when we had the weekly nfl alum touchdown streak. It was all of the other fans who cried about how Miami were cheaters, etc...
How the mighty have fallen.
My specific suggestion: Keep the pressure on Donna Shalala and the UM AD to continue to put assets and resources in the hands of the football program until its fixed. For it was Donna's approval of the hiring of Randy and her insistance that coker be given another year (because he has "earned it" according to Donna) that put the program in the hole its in today.
BTW - When you KNOW that an employee is destroying your business, how the **** do you give that employee another year simnply because they're a "nice guy?"
do you not remember how good we were in 2005? we lost a close one at fsu, won in 3 overtimes in death valley, and then went and beat everyone we played (fairly convincingly) and were in the title hunt until we hit georgia tech.
we went 11-2, 9-3, 9-3 (8-1 going into the georgia tech game) before the 2006 debacle, so it's hard to justify firing a coach for that record. he also signed a contract extension in 2005 so that would have been an even worse firing that year. yes, we know he was an awful coach and gutted the program, but we didn't realize the extent of that damage until 2006.
the shannon hiring was way too fast and lazy though and there's really no justification other than being the "players' choice."
