Was gonna start a thread on this but figured I’d just piggyback.
**** were the backs good today.
Fletcher gets the start and ran really hard early. Multiple tough runs and broken tackles.
Had a 9 yard run on the first drive, picked up a tough 3rd and short, a 20+ explosive on the 2nd drive as well as a couple other big runs. Picked up a 4th and short early in the 2nd quarter and Martinez started to mix in.
Martinez starts the 2nd half and more of the same. Tough running inside, running through arm tackles and falling forward. Huge 20+ run on 3rd and 6 in the early 3rd on the Restrepo TD drive.
Fletcher gets the next series and fumbles, but they come right back to him on the next series and again another really tough run on another 4th and 1 deep in our own end.
I was shocked to see Allen start the 4th quarter but he looked **** good too. You could tell he was fresh, he was punishing defenders, broke multiple tackles. The 9 yard run down to the 2 was really tough, then he smashes his way in for a TD.
They bring him back again for the next drive, he goes 13 yards on the first play, has a big catch on 2nd and 10 for 7 to set up a short 3rd down that we convert. Another good run and then Martinez bullies his way for a massive 4 yard run on 3rd and 3. REALLY tough, hard running. And on the next play has the best run of the season where he makes the whole Louisville defense look like little kids.
Was somewhat curious that I’m pretty sure Fletcher didn’t play a single snap in the 4th quarter but everyone had it rolling.
Team runs for 219 yards, the backs getting 193 of that.
Fletcher 13 for 73, 5.6 a carry and multiple short yardage conversions.
Martinez 12 for 89, 7.4 and a TD on a straight beast mode play. Also had the other run where he and the OL dragged the whole Louisville defense 20 yards down the field.
Allen 5 for 31, 6.2 and a TD.
Most yards Louisville has allowed all season. Cam was sensational when he had to be, as usual. But that was the running game we’ve all been asking for. We just wore their asses down and the dam finally broke in the 4th quarter.
Really impressive, tough running all day from all the backs. Nobody going down on first contact and getting to the 2nd level all day. **** of a job.
