With so much talent in 2015 and 2016 classes, I would love to see this staff knock out all 9 scholarship reductions out this season. In order to make this happen they will have to start the season with only 76 scholarship players on the roster. At the rate this staff is recruiting I believe this could actually be the plan.

Current roster numbers
6 QB's
3 RB's
1 FB
10 WR's
6 TE's
4 OT's
4 OG's
4 OC's
7 DE's
9 DT's
6 OLB's
4 MLB's
8 CB's
6 S's
1 K

That is a total of 79 scholarship kids with Trayone Gray and Tyler Grimsley still yet to qualify. If those 2 kids don't make it in, 3 more guys will have to transfer to get down to 76. In my opinion we could stand to lose 1 QB, 1 WR, and 1 Dt. Who do you guys think could be on their way out before the season starts?

Guys I wouldn't mind leaving the team
  1. Gray Crow
  2. Corey King
  3. Earl Moore

*disclaimer* for all the soft shoulder guys: This has nothing to do with kids working hard and getting a education. I understand it is wrong to just take a kids scholarship or force him out of the program. On the other hand, this is college football and these kids committed to actually play and not just get an education.

Staff can only knock out 7 of the 9 ships this year as they have to have at least 1 per year per the ruling. That said, I agree that we should try to get the maximum this year so we can be limited to only 84 the next two years. So our goal should be 78 this year.

After Hoiletts departure, we are at 82 (edit: I see you have us at 79, I thought I read somewhere we were at 83 before Hoilett, might be due to some walk ons getting ships not sure.....if you are right then it's very easy to get to 78) IF and it's a big if Gray and Grimsley both get in. So that means 4 more guys need to go. I agree with King and Crow. Moore will be in the rotation at DT this year he isn't going anywhere. Blue might be a candidate if the young LBs look good in fall camp and he gets passed up. D Mauri Jones could be a candidate depending on how the young WRs do in camp. Ofcourse, either Gray or Grimsley or both may not qualify, so it's actually not that hard to come up with a scenario where we are at 78. O Donnell may be a candidate since he has 3 TEs ahead of him this year and probably at least Standish ahead of him next year.

If we can get down to 78, with 13 SR's and Duke moving on, that will leave 64 going into 2015. This staff will be able to bring in 20 kids to meet the restricted roster number of 84.

At least 2 more JR's could declare for the draft (Howard & Flowers) and 3 guys could transfer (O'Donnell, King, & Jones). If this happens, we could see a full class of 25.

With 6 TEs and 6 QBs it is easy to get rid of some numbers. I mean we don't throw to the TE so there is 6 we will not even know are gone. What the heck do we need 6 QBs for? Al only plays one once he picks him no matter how bad the dude stinks, so just get Al to tell us who he is going to pick now.

Our scholarship reductions were less than a slap on the wrist. Normal attrition should absorb all of it. By not reducing yearly initial counters, the NCAA almost let us off almost free.

S/O to Earl Moore.

When he came to Hillsborough his freshman year he had never played organized football. Earl was country strong, and a basketball player. He only played football because all his cousins before him played. He couldn't even line up in a proper 3pt stance his entire first year. Yet, the kid was quiet, did everything that was asked and took coaching well. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY thought he would end up at a D1, much less Mia.

Now, he has people who could only dream about doing what he is doing saying they wouldn't mind him leaving. Keep doing what you do Earl, and get that degree homie.

Wait. He couldn't line up in a 3 pt stance for an entire year, yet he took coaching well. Did you read what you posted before hitting enter? Sorry, but sometimes posts are unintentionally funny.

Yea, just like yours.

He did everything that was asked, never complained, never said I cant do that, always gave 100%. Anyone who isn't trying to be a jackass knows what I mean.

And obviously he took coaching well if he went from not knowing what a stunt is, to having a scholarship to UM

The numbers will work themselves out as they always do we could be down to only 3 scholarship qbs to start next season

I thought you said he couldn't get into a 3 pt stance. So, reading what you said makes me a jackass. Check.

That was just an example showing where he started at. You choose to that one sentence and miss the entire point of my post.

And he couldn't. Earl had the ugliest 3pt stance ever. He was naturally stiff.and looked very uncomfortable. And yes, it took him just about the entire year for him to look like he was going to actually fire off the ball.
