Has anyone done the math on the roster numbers? I'm probably wrong, and I know this changes by the day with the transfer portal, but it looks like we have 60 coming back as of today (updated for latest transfers). Add in a full 25 commitment class and we are at 85. So, unless many more are planning to leave, it doesn't look like we are taking many transfers.

What am I missing?

I have it presently at 64, not including the verbal commitments

Portal goes both ways and there's a second wave in May... More kids will leave after spring ball and we'll bring more in as well.

You are missing the fact that the IC rules are suspended for this year, and that the 85 counter limit is the ONLY numerical thing that matters.

None of the numbers matter right now or this at least this second. All schollys are annually renewed. There will be even more kids leaving or being pushed out. I see almost no point about crunching numbers til after regular NSD.

Is there a date at which we have to be at that 85 number? I mean we can sign 100 recruits and portal kids on Dec. Doesn’t matter if they aren’t enrolled. None of those kids count technically.

So wondering if we can oversign above 85 now and in spring we see others on the team portal out to get down to the 85 number.

Certification date for the COUNTERS rule (85) is in August.

I know this will sound weird, but...I'm not sure that ALL of the rules have been updated for the new reality.

Meaning...let's say you're at 85 RIGHT NOW. And, IN THEORY, all of those 85 might be enrolling for spring (guys need to graduate, even early NFL draft guys)...and then you are saying that you could get 50 to enroll in January...

There IS a "mid-year graduation replacement rule" for the Counter rules...but with the rapid rise of January enrollees...PLUS Portal...PLUS the COVID year and "super-seniors"...PLUS the temporary removal of IC rules...

You actually raise a relevant point, would it be possible to have 120 people ON SCHOLARSHIP in the springtime?

Hadn't actually thought about that one...normally the offset is that you have plenty of guys who have ALREADY finished school and don't HAVE TO enroll in the spring...but it's a **** good question...

John Ruiz writes a bunch of tuition checks for grayshirts? Dogs and cats living together?

Rule #1. Don't crunch numbers. Numbers always work out.

Are there any limits to number of walkons? Could a walk on have an nil deal to cover tuition giving you an unlimited roster?

There is also a cap on how many you can dress and how many can travel.

But "in theory" Nebraska has a nearly unlimited roster.

Thank you sir.

There's no way you watched that abomination of a season and thought "yeah, 60 of these players need to come back next year".

A TON of players will be shown the door.

There are 27 spots available right now with 21 HS commits. I think that they'll bring in 27-30 HS commits and 12-15 new transfers in total this off season. So, 10-20 more players would need to enter the portal in order to for the team to stay under 85 IC'S for next year.

Never said anything about "need to come back". I said as of that moment I was counting 60 returning. I'm sure that will be less. There's no opinion in my post, just trying to understand the numbers.

Rule #2. If by chance, you've cracked the code and have figured out that we have too many kids signing, and not enough room for them all...... revert back to Rule #1.

so according to @GojiraCane we have two spots available, maybe a few more if there are departures before the close of the portal. that's not a lot and maybe why we have not seen that much activity.
