Fairly unprecedented to say that we may see complete roster turnover going into next year with a new staff.

Cleveland, Kidd, Pack, Blackmon and Johnson are out of eligibility. Bethea will almost assuredly turn pro or transfer to a higher profile program to better position himself.

That leaves Swartz, Staton-McCray, Ugochukwu, Djobet and two incoming freshman in Able and Ahmed.

Swartz has looked promising since moving into the starting lineup so I’d imagine good schools will be after him in the portal. Same goes for Ugochukwu but would love to keep both in the fold.

I think Staton-McCray sticks around given the local ties and likely having a bigger role next year. Djobet probably should look at transferring to a lower level program as I’d imagine he’ll get recruited over in the portal.

I said this in another thread, but no one on this roster is irreplacable, and there will be some guys come in from wherever the next HC comes from to follow him. It happens all the time. Portal plus Able/Ahmed and VERY few holdovers from the current roster are exactly what I expect for next year.

Both signess are eligible to get out of their LOI due to the coaching change iirc
Works for me. Same thing would happen with recruits signed to wherever the next HC is currently coaching at. Maybe some of those kids he recruited come over with whoever it is and are capable of being the bedrock of the rebuild.

I very much doubt we retain a single player from this roster. It would be nice to hold onto Uguchukwu and Swartz but they aren't starter caliber players next year if we are, in any way, serious about winning basketball games. I wouldn't hate keeping Djobet as a continued project. Again, not as a starter. No one on this roster is worthy of a secured starting position next year.

I expect Pack is finagling his way into some sort of medical redshirt so that he can go somewhere else and make a few bucks before his basketball career ends. More power to him. He is best served as a 3rd or even 4th scoring option like he was on our Final 4 run.

Bethea going pro? Where? Certainly not in the united states of america unless it's in something other than sports. He has one shot he can make and it's actually the worst shot in basketball - a 20 foot pull up jump shot. He cannot handle the ball, he cannot defend, he cannot get through screens, he cannot hit the 3 with any consistency, and he cannot get to the basket off the dribble.

Blackmon, and Johnson are some of the worst evals I've ever seen by this program. They are not D1 basketball players. It's that simple. It's not their fault, I actually feel awful for Johnson. He seems like a great kid, very bright. He's 3 for his last 34 from 3. Blackmon looks like a child that's been thrown onto the court by an angry parent.

Let me make that it's own line: Brandon Johnson is 3 for his last 34 from 3 and has not made a 3 since December 15th.

Nowadays a new coach doesn't just bring a new staff but a new roster as well. We can be turned into a competitive program in a matter of months, just look at Louisville or Michigan. We can easily do the same.
