Didn't over-analyze it... just went through pretty quick.

Pierre, Deon, Duke, Eddie, Tracy, Terry, Bunche, Flowers = flat out studs

Kacy, Gunter, Porter, Gaines = overachieved last night

DEFENSE
LBs in coverage = liability
LBs against the run = nasty

DBs in zone = improving
DBs in man = nasty

DL all season = weak
DL last night = overachieved (Pierre's bullrush and subsequent leap over the OL was throwback - & Porter took up 2 blocks every-time he was in)

COACHES
Golden = A (we were prepared - I see the "coastal division focus" mantra paying off)

D'Onofrio = B+ (we are still VERY late getting plays in - guys were scrambling far too much - all in all he got aggressive, played more man, and 12 points is 12 points)

Fisch = C+ (too cute for me - I think he could be great but he out-thinks himself too often - comes with territory of hiring young assistant. He's still the best we've had since Chud. Don't forget the offense is young and inexperienced too - UTough and Collins will pay dividends moving forward with our "physical presence" pounding the rock)

Side note: Good to have The Claw back

Him having a solid game was very important and he did just that.

I don't think Gunter is overachieving.

I think he is showing he is the real deal.

Gaines might have had the best game of his career, at-least against the run. He was coming downhill and blasting fools.

Gunter did a good job last night. DB play was better. Still giving up too many rushing yards. 3 & outs are continuing to kill our defense. Fortunately last night, VT never got on track.

ummm..Gunter in the spring was OUR best cb in my opinion...
Dont think the kid is overachieving...i think he is the goods....he just needed some seasoning...he is confident as all ****....CB situation is brightening up when u have a Tracy Howard looking solid to go with Crawford...and guys like Dortch, Hope in the wings.

That's without mentioning Finnie. Also, i think Burns has the ability to be a top 3 corner here....his first year on campus. He's got that kind of weird physical ability. More likely, he'll be in the top 5.

Agreed for the most part. Good stuff.

I really didn't understand the 3 and out passing series' when you have a lead in the 4th quarter. That's just dumb playcalling 101. Still not as down on Fisch as others but the combination of him and Morris will take years off our lives at times.

What the **** was up with our field it looked and played like **** ?

I thought the same thing and made comment on it in the game thread, The worse I have seen pro player in years. Maybe new ownership has gotten cheap on the field turf since the marlins left or something. Field used to be the best in the biz and always held up well. It has been falling apart since FSU, I thought maybe they were going to re-sod since the phins had a bye and we had one too...

Hopefully this is not the case but I wouldnt be surprised if they cut some of the field budget. It looks absolutely terrible right now

I don't see how Porter "overachieved." Basically every game he's played here looked like the game he played last night. I know he's back form injury, but I took that as some kind of shot at his talent level.

Porter's ability has never been the question. It's his durability

The guy can play( when healthy, which unfortunately, hasn't been nearly enough)

Right, but I took OP's post to mean that Porter played above his talent level.

If you think about some of the guys of recent years like Dwayne Hendricks, Antonio Dixon and Marcus Fortson( who have made NFL rosters), you could argue that Porter is superior to those guys. The guy has the ability to play on Sundays. I've been so frustrated by his career at UM because I've always thought he could be a front line guy

Yep, he was better than Forston since he was a freshman.

I meant he overchieved for the circumstances (1st game back in forever, coaches scrambling to get him in shape, etc)

And I agree with poster re: field turf. What the **** was that? Duke slipped hard on a cut back run that could have left him "Cooper'ized"
I hate that stadium with a passion.

Our secondary is going to go from a weakness this year (at least at the beginning) to a strength next year. That's exciting. Now we just need to get our DL ready to go...our defense is going to be good in 2 years. Really freaking good.
