Now that the Season is pretty much in the dumps as far as us achieving our goals (just trying to finish strong), I'm switching gears to recruiting to hopefully bring good news. It's Richt and staff's first full class and clearly there are a lot of holes on the team that need to be addressed. This 2017 class is very important to building the depth we need to get back to being great again.

With the recent commits of Amari Carter and De'Andre Wilder, I think that we can start to see some closure within certain positions for our 2017 class as well as remaining targets:

DT (Done) - Grade B+

Jonathan Ford

Analysis - Staff only wanted 1 DT and we got the top target. IMO I think we should add 1 more, but i'm happy with Ford

DE (Possible 1 more)- Grade A+

Jonathan Garvin
DJ Johnson

Targets - Jordan Wright, Owen Carney

Analysis - Garvin and Johnson are absolute studs. IMO both should be 5 stars. Maybe we add 1 more in Wright or Carney as a project/redshirt candidate

LB (Done) - Grade A

Wayne Steed
De'Andre Wilder
Bradley Jennings

Analysis - Ideal LB class. Speed, aggression, instincts in all 3 of these LBs. All Miami type guys too. Pumped about their potential. I think they are all EEs too

CB - (Need 2 More) - Grade B-

Trajan Bandy
Deejay Dallas

Targets - Christopher Henderson, Brian Edwards, Latavious Brini, Antwan Collier

Big Misses - Shawn Davis, Marco Wilson

Analysis - Missing Marco Wilson and Shawn Davis to the Gaytors are huge misses but having Edwards and Henderson made it acceptable. If we now lose Edwards and Henderson too, this CB class is a bust, even with Bandy and Deejay in it. Our CB depth is awful, and if we can't turn it around in this class it's going to hurt us in a big way moving forward. We can't keep looking to the next year anymore. Gotta land 2 or 3 of the listed remaining targets.

S - (Done) - Grade A-

Billy Gibson
Amari Carter

Analysis - The staff labeled 4 safety targets they wanted in this class (Gibson, F'agan, Wright, Carter) and landed 2 of them. I think Gibson and Carter have more potential and will be better college players than the other 2. Very solid safety class. Carter will be a starter next year IMO

If you build it, they will come... Diaz showing signs of how Miami Defense is supposed to be played. Kids have to like what they see when they turn on the games. I know we have had some struggles but those are mostly on the O and the D is relatively younger!

Agree with everything except saying we got the best 2 safeties. F'agan is going to be the best safety of that group by a long shot

Gibson is going to have something to say about that. Saban doesnt personally recruit kids on defense who aint that ****. He is going to be a stud at SS in 2 years.

Focus down the stretch - CORNER BACK

And that's it.. All other positions are good

B+ rating for DT is a bit generous, imo, especially when we need 2. JMO

Need this staff to get on Maliek Gray. We don't need him to go to fsux along with F'agan. CMR needs to begin to "process" a little bit of the dead weight after this year and make room for some contributors. Some of these players that are here now should not even have a Miami jersey on their back.

The Safety class should be a B. A- is too generous. FSU has the two best safety's in South Florida, that's an A or A+ haul. CB's, we need an OOS HS All-American to come in. Collier and Brini are talented, but they are not ready to contribute early imo, hope I'm wrong.

Jordan Wright is a long shot, still a possibility, but I think he'll end up with Kentucky...
Carney ain't coming.

We have the best LB class in the state for the 2nd year in a row.

CB's are a desperate need, probably will need to add a JUCO or a Grad Transfer, because even if we get Collier & Brini, we still need depth & experience in the secondary with Elder leaving.

Shawn Davis was a bigger miss than Marco; Marco was never coming here & people only got bent outta shape because they were foolish enough to believe we actually had a shot.

Losing CJ & Brian Edwards was what completely ****ed up our CB class, have to find a way to get Edwards back, because CJ is as good as gone.

At Safety, we're very solid with Carter & Gibson...

I still don't understand not going after a JuCo CB. We really need one because we're gonna be extremely young there next season.

You panic too much about DT's bro...

I've said this probably over 20 times on threads... Coach Kool said himself that he's not recruiting the traditional big fat slow 330lbs DT, he wants fast athletic lineman that can move & are versatile.

What that means is, we may take 3 or 4 DE's in a class, but we'll never lack DT depth because he wants 4 Pass rusher on the line who can also cover the run.

Anyone know anything about this dude..

Matt Whyte, ASA College Miami, Cornerback

247 has an article up about him
If you search his name on CIS, I've posted about him a bunch...

He went to Carol City & last year at Asa he had 9INT's... This year he's mainly been used as a KR.
He was also at the Mark Richt camp back in June, not Paradise, but the camp Richt held before that.

He's been interested in Miami for awhile and has wanted an offer, the staff I guess has kept tabs on him & may offer down the line.
