Replace Spring games with FCS schools?

Not a bad suggestion in Goldens interview on ESPN today.

Instead of playing a spring game, have a couple of FCS schools for opponents which will end up being a scrimmage anyway and find a way to pay them...perhaps from a conference pool of funds.

Terrible idea IMO, what about injuries, I can see some cheap shots happening just because the FCS schools feel like they're cannon fodder.

bad idea for the FCS schools during reg season they can collect a fat check..in a spring game 5K people show up no huge pay out...

I would rather see what the pros do, bring in a school that we don't play like Texas due drills together for like two days then live scrimmage on a Friday night..you would pack some seats...play same rules as we do now no touching the QB but hit real live folks ...just swap teams like a home and home...

Teams I would like to see

Texas
Lsu
Bama
Oregon

I would love to see a couple of games during spring against any opponent. Three spring games against FCS schools would be awesome. It's a long offseason and getting to see the Canes play during that time would be a nice fix.

Wait...more probability for injuries when you have eleven of your own guys on the field at any given time as opposed to twenty two?

Sure, makes sense.

I don't know about replacing spring games with them but for sure, get them the **** off the regular season schedule, it's a waste of 350 grand for us, and it just gives us an opportunity to get hurt. No one goes to the games. We can use the USF's and FAU's of the world as punching bags for the first couple games to warmup against but if a game is going to have a sixty point spread it has no business on the schedule instead why don't we schedule more intriguing games that more people will attend and raise tv ratings

Why don't they just let them have a real preseason game, where they play the game in the stadium, so they can draw a decent crowd. It's the same thing they do now, but it won't affect the strength of schedule.

Doesnt that take away from the purpose of a Spring Game?.... which is being able to evaluate players in a controlled setting.

Good idea except, now you have half as many snaps to evaluate players in the spring.

The new trend in the NFL is teams practicing with each other during training camp w/o pads.

I wouldn't mind seeing something along those lines. Plus, it would (mostly) take out the injury factor.

Imagine going to traz powell / tropical park to watch the canes and gators throw it around on each other for a couple of days.
