Red Zone Playcalling

Yeah I’m not tryna be that guy. But the short yardage stuff is just our dudes being dudes. And Martinez being a truck. And the throwing stuff is cam being a dude with accuracy and quick release and just a feel for the game. The other percentage is Dawson. That being said Dawson has done a great job this year letting cam sling it and instilling confidence in his abilities.

Don't know if its just me, but Dawson is killing it in the red zone this year.

No longer are we getting stuffed repeatedly or running dumb plays.
Said it in another thread last week…

When we need to run and teams know we’re going to run, specifically in the red zone. We’re not being stopped. We were second in the conference last week in rushing TDs and now we’re tied for first in that category. SMU is averaging 20 more rushing yards a game and UNC is averaging 15 more than us a game and we have more rushing TDs than both of them.

Could we commit to it a little more? Sure. But we’re nowhere near as bad as some would make us out to be.

1. Red Zone conversions

2. Short yardage conversions

Those are two of the biggest differences I see with this team
Could this all be contributed to the way we’re running the ball and not having a lot of big runs - rb’s not trying to pop big runs by going horizontal? Really seem to be limiting the tackles for loss.

I am not sure what all to make of the run game

I’ve seen the same takes over and over again where people

1. ***** there’s no running lanes
2. Trash Martinez and Fletcher for dancing too much

Well it can’t be both. If there’s no hole then you have to wait for one but I digress

Either way the days of being stopped repeatedly on 2nd/3rd/4th and short seem to be dead and I’m thankful

Two major reasons for the upgrade - Martinez and Ward. RB who is a bull and QB who can improvise and make plays.

And 3rd down conversions have been phenomenal. 4th downs too in crunch time.
Yeah I was trying to compile a list of down and distance where we ran it, like 2nd/3rd/4th and 3 or less type stuff

But I couldn’t really find any instances where we got stopped. Wasn’t always pretty but we are moving the chains when we need to and giving Cam chances to throw TDs

Huge difference extending drives over previous teams

I think you have to throw in the 3rd down conversions on offense. 60% is insane
Absolutely. We’ve actually thrown it on short yardage for first downs quite a bit

I suppose part of my reasoning is just watching us get brick walled for so many ******* years not being able to get a yard on the ground when we need it
