With the new year comes the stretch run of the recruiting season. Here is the latest for Miami on the recruiting front.
-January 18th is shaping up to be arguably the biggest recruiting weekend in years for the 'Canes and without a doubt has the biggest names that this staff has had in their time at Miami. Here is a look at the expected visitors thus far:
ATH Ray Lewis III
OL Alex Gall
DE Tim Williams
TE Standish Dobard
RB Alex Collins
S Jamal Carter
DB Artie Burns
QB Kevin Olsen
OL Denver Kirkland
WR Levonte Whitfield
DL Dee Liner
**One name that is currently missing from that list is Matthew Thomas, but I would be shocked if he doesn't take a visit that weekend. He is currently slated to visit USC that weekend, but from talking to Thomas and Kirkland, I expect 6 to be in Coral Gables that weekend.
-Here's some good news on Alex Collins that Miami fans might be surprised to hear. Multiple people I've talked to around the South Plantation program tell me that the rumors of his Head Coach, Doug Gatewood, pushing him anywhere are completely false. This has been something floating around for a while, but I'm confident in saying it isn't true. One of the sources who has spoken to him extensively even told me that Gatewood is a Miami fan. Collins de-committed from Miami under his own power because he just was unsure about what he was going to do, and that is still the case.
-As I said on Tuesday, look for 4-star Alquadin Muhammad to choose Miami on Saturday at the Army All-American game on Saturday. The 'Canes really came on strong the last month for Muhammad. This could be one of those, "how did they do it?" pulls from Golden and staff.
-The reports out of Anaheim at the Semper Fidelis game are that Ray Lewis III has been very impressive and belongs at the game from a talent standpoint. I asked Lewis III how it was going out there, and he replied, "All the competitiveness is great." I will have a full update with him after the week and will have info on the relationship he has formed with Alex Collins, as the two are rooming with each other.
-This isn't really a surprise, but don't expect Jermaine Grace to announce at the Semper Fidelis game on Friday. He had been flirting with the idea, but Cameron Underwood told me today that Grace most likely wants the "Signing Day Experience." For a full breakdown of Grace's attribute's, read the breakdown from Underwood here: http://canesinsight.co/showthread.php?41227-Recruit-Notebook-Jermaine-Grace & this was his last update with CanesInSight: http://canesinsight.com/content.php?948-Catching-up-with-Jermaine-Grace-Again
-I've posted this same message on the boards for a couple days now on DE/OLB Tim Williams, but I will say it again. Yes, Miami is in very good shape with him and the 'Canes are probably in the best spot right now to land him, but I will hold off on penciling him in this class until he takes a visit here. He was scheduled to come three times since June and didn't make it for any of them. There's a high probability he makes it this time around because his season is over and the focus is totally on recruiting, but I still want to see him make the trip before we go all in on him being in the class.
