Every time we offer a recruit from Bama or MS, someone inevitably asks, yea, but do we have any chance here? @Odysseus says its virtually impossible to pull a kid from the "Slave belt". @DMoney even created a thread about why we need to stop recruiting kids from small towns.

@Zanecane requested a thread to see how our offers do long term to kids in this area. So here we go. Tracking kids we seriously recruited. Not just some random offer. Is it worthwhile or a waste of time to recruit this area of the country especially when you have UM friendly areas like TX that probably could use more focus.

Yup we already have relationships on the roster. Bama doesn’t carry that fear anymore and that offer now doesn’t mean “take a look at the film”.

Now when they offer it’s not like it’s a Saban eval. I look at their offer now like a piece of cardboard with old bubble gum on it, and the pen is made of everyone’s tooth from the area.

Its about relationships. You cant show up when kids are 4 and 5 stsr rising juniors. U start it when they are entering high school even before. We have Mario. We have gotten players from regions people thought off limits already and i expect it to continue.

While the two kids we got from Alabama are from the South, they are from a fairly large metropolitan area (Mobile).

Yes definitely include the panhandle and add Jones to the only guy we got from the slave belt states, along with the juco o-linemen Bell

I would say another caveat would be so the big time area ACC/SEC schools want the kid?

For instance Ny Carr was a huge win. State of Ga, was a UGA commit.

Judd wasn't a big SEC offer kid.

Cole M wasn't someone Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, UGA, etc.. chased.

Day wasn't pursued by LSU did any other SEC schools push hard for him? Shows offers from Mississippi schools.


Also, not saying these kids won't turn out to be good players, just from a recurring perspective. Easier to beat Louisville for Alabama kid than say Auburn or of course Alabama.

For me if all things are equal nil possible playing time coaching training no way I turn down a city like Miami for Tuscaloosa if all things are equal but everyone is different.
