Some scattered thoughts. A lot of people on this board might consider this pessimistic but here’s my POV
Positives:
Our offensive staff can recruit at an elite or near elite level (except for OT)
We stacked our wr, te, interior offensive line, rb, and qb positions instead of resting on our laurels and following up a good class with a bad one
Our 4 signed dbs are talented
Nesta
Negatives:
Our offense play calling is bad and Richt is too stubborn to relqunish his duties anytime soon. This will hinder our positives in offensive recruiting
Every qb looks like dan Marino against us
Diaz is a question mark when it comes to recruiting (snagged most of his targets the last 2 years except Cowan and Louis but tbd how well he evaluated.) I know South Florida has good lbs, but would’ve liked to see us press some other kids in the state or OOS. Don’t look now but Lb depth is almost as shaky as the dline. Let’s see how wilder and steed develop.
Can’t recruit elite OTs
We still slowplay local guys like chatfield, Harley, and samuel for no reason
Besides Hall, none of our db commits are elite
athletes. They’re all good, but we still need elite athletes. For example, I’m sure everyone on this board would rather have Campbell rather than Blades lined up against Justin Shorter if we ever meet Penn State in the playoffs. Losing out on athletes like samuel, surtain, most likely Campbell and Jobe hurt us in taking the next step
Our two db coaches have missed out on a plethora of elite dbs/our top targets (Henderson, Wilson, surtain, Jobe, most likely Campbell, surtain, ***an, & Wright ). There’s justifications for each of these kids and I don’t care to hear them
We recruit better than before but still not at the level of these 4 (OSU, Bama, Clemson, and UGA), which we will need to do in order to beat them
Our roster management
Kool is either too lazy or not good enough to pull in the
#’s we need on the dline
Taggart and Mullen are bout to get their first class boost and we just lost 4 studs from our strongest unit
