As one of the best camps on the circuit in terms of elite talent, the Under Armour All-America Miami Camp has been bringing together the best of the best in South Florida to compete on the gridiron for years now.
And this version of the camp did not disappoint: nearly 200 of the area’s best prospects again came out to show their stuff versus the cream of the crop this past Sunday and earn an invite to either the UA Future 50 event or the UA All-America Game in January, 2021.
With the 2020 class wrapped up and in the books, of course the focus of the camp was the rising seniors of 2021, but some of others in the 2022 class made a name for themselves as well.
As always, take this with a grain of salt: In a camp setting, kids are spread out all over the field into different groups that are playing at the same time, so it’s impossible to see every play. Still, for my money, here are my top performers from the Under Armour All-America Miami Camp, along with some recruiting and general camp notes.

Tar’Varish Dawson, WR, Lehigh Acres, FL (Lehigh Senior)
The Canes are recruiting him at DB, but Dawson elected to play receiver at the UA camp and it turned out to be a great decision on a day where a lot of the area’s best receivers did not show up. Dawson was a clear standout and he ended up being too much to handle for most DB’s, turning them around and making some look silly out there. His burst is just on another level than everyone else on the field, and the explosion he showed coming out of his breaks was plain fun to watch.
Jacolby George, WR, Plantation, FL (Plantation)
George is starting to become a regular on these lists after bursting onto the scene last summer. I commented to somebody how crazy it was to always see George running open despite a lack of top end speed, but looking closer at his game allows you to see why that is. His ability to win battles for contested passes stood out, as well as his pinpoint route running to create separation. Adding those factors to strong hands and body control shows that he is an advanced receiver prospect for his age. He could really make magic in the slot at the next level.
Antonio Johnson, TE, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas)
Johnson was probably the most productive player I saw at the event during the 7-on-7 portion, and it seemed like whenever he was on the field, he was making plays. In particular, he had a sick, one-handed sideline grab that was thrown poorly low and away, but he was able to keep his balance, control the ball, and get his feet in bounds. Also does a good job of walling defenders off and using his body as a shield to make catches. Not the tallest tight end prospect, and he needs to reshape his body a bit too, but the raw pass-catching tools are there.
Laurence Seymore, OL, Miami, FL (Miami Central)
You can say whatever you want about his height, but there’s something to be said about a lineman like Seymore who never takes plays off and loves competition to his core. He never disappoints at these events going up against the best talent in the area, and has a natural strength that is God-given. He won pretty much every rep until 2021 Chaminade DT Allan Haye got him at the very end of the event, and Seymore just moves people wherever he wants them to go. He’s going to be a fixture on the interior of Miami’s line for years to come.
Ryan Rodriguez, OL, Miami, FL (Columbus)
This was the first time I got an in-person look at Rodriguez and he was certainly impressive. He anchored the line at center all day, went up against a deep defensive tackle field, and didn’t look out of place at all. In particular, he completely stoned Gators DL commit Tyreak Sapp on back-to-back reps. Rodriguez needs to continue to get bigger, but he understands how to use leverage and make the most out of his hand placement.
Dallas Turner, DE, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas)
Turner was a dominant force off the edge, making his living in the backfield and he was nearly impossible to block all day. He abused his fair share of O-Linemen to win the UA Big Man Challenge for top lineman at the event and it was easy to see why. His get-off and explosion off the ball are elite, and he put a few opponents in the spin cycle as well.
Savion Collins, DT, Miami, FL (Miami Palmetto)
Collins gets bigger and better every time I see him, but he somehow keeps his trademark quickness. He is easily over 300 pounds at this point, but he was still able to win reps even working on the outside with his speed and athleticism. His handwork and technique is improving as well, as he showed off a nasty rip and swim move to go along with his fast feet. He’s just a rare type of interior lineman prospect that doesn’t come around often.
Leonard Taylor, DT, Miami, FL (Miami Palmetto)
The second half of the terrifying Palmetto interior D-Line duo, Taylor was probably the most impressive athlete I saw this weekend. The reason for that is not just because of the amount of reps he won (and it was a lot), but how he was winning them. Taylor was consistently dominating his reps and was able to win in various ways, either blowing right by his opponent with his speed or converting that quickness into power by getting his opponent off balance from the snap and then tossing them aside. He proved he was a no-doubt, 5-star talent.
Jaydon Hood, LB, Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas)
Hood’s main strength that comes across on his film is his ability to fill gaps and also stack and shed blocks to profile as a top-tier run stopper, so it was surprising to me how good he looked in coverage on Sunday. He was even giving Miami RB commit Thad Franklin trouble at one point, cutting off a wheel route that looked like it could go for a TD. Hood was all over the field shutting everything down and his above average instincts give him the ability to diagnose plays early and get there a step quicker. He looks like the complete package to me at linebacker right now.
Austin Dean, LB, Tampa, FL (Berkeley Prep)
Dean is a well-put together linebacker prospect that demonstrated safety-like ball skills at the event, as he picked off multiple passes. He’s not going to wow you athletically, but he makes up for it with great football IQ and field awareness to always end up around the ball to make a play.
Kevin Knowles, CB, Hollywood, FL (McArthur)
Knowles is a very springy athlete that has jet-like speed, and he used those abilities to lock down receivers trying to create separation all day. Displays great hip-flip when running with receivers and climbed the ladder a few times to knock away passes. He walked away with a well-deserved invite to the UA game.

Shemar Stewart, DE, Opa Locka, FL (Monsignor Pace)
There are just some things you can’t teach and Stewart is a man amongst boys on the field, showing an exciting blend of explosion and power. He was one of the more physically impressive specimens at the event even when compared with the rising seniors, and he puts on more good weight every time I see him. He was really whipping some of the upperclassmen off the edge yesterday. He has the potential to be a complete defensive end prospect when it’s all said and done.
Earl Little Jr., CB, Fort Lauderdale, FL (American Heritage)
The Hurricanes’ legacy has a tall and lanky frame that profiles well in terms of putting on weight and retaining his functional athleticism. Receivers were finding it hard to separate from him all day, and his length was really bothering receivers, as it allowed him to tip away passes that a lot of corners might not get to.
Trevell Mullen, CB, Pompano Beach, FL (Coconut Creek)
Trevell looks like he’s going to be the next Mullen on the scene that ends up playing cornerback at the Power 5 level in college. He looks a little bigger than his listed 5-11 150 pounds right now, but even with a slighter frame, he is not afraid to get physical with receivers and jam at the line.

**Five 2021 prospects earned invites to the UA All-America Game in January, a record. They were: Miami Central (FL) OL Laurence Seymore, Plantation (FL) WR Jacolby George, McArthur (FL) CB Kevin Knowles, Miami Palmetto (FL) DT Savion Collins, and St. Thomas (FL) LB Jaydon Hood.
**Under Armour also gave out three invites to 2022 prospects for their Future 50 event in January. They went to Monsignor Pace (FL) DE Shemar Stewart, Deerfield Beach (FL) DE Richard Thomas, and Dillard (FL) WR Devaughn Mortimer.
**Former Hurricanes RB Edgerrin James made an appearance at the event with his son, 2022 Treasure Coast (FL) RB Eden James, participating in the event; Edgerrin also helped out by coaching during the early portion of the day.
**Miami 2021 DT commit Savion Collins was pretty honest in speaking about his UM commitment, saying that there’s been a lot of hype around the program, but that he hasn’t seen the results he’s looking for. He told me he wants Miami to show him something on the field this year, and that he expects to stick with them if they show real improvement in 2020. He mentioned his biggest factor was relationship with the coaches, and then characterized his connection with coach Stroud as “Okay”. Collins is looking to visit LSU next month as well.
**2021 Columbus (FL) OL Ryan Rodriguez watched a spring practice at UM last week and is already high on the new offense and what he’s seen from QB D’Eriq King. He also mentioned he liked seeing how OL coach Garin Justice communicated with his players. He expects a big season on the field from Miami, and feels like that would help out with a lot of other South Florida prospects as well in terms of getting them to stay home. Visits to Louisville and Wake Forest are scheduled for the end of the month, and he’s expecting to narrow things down soon after.
**2021 St. Thomas (FL) LB Jaydon Hood is rising on Miami’s board and is talking with Manny Diaz regularly. Hood visited for Junior Day and told me he is going to be making a follow up visit to campus with his family next weekend for a more 1-on-1 experience. He expects a decision to come by the end of the 2020 season.
**Another riser on UM’s board is 2021 McArthur (FL) CB Kevin Knowles, who said he’s gotten real tight with coach DeMarcus Van Dyke and talks to him every day, and also speaks with Diaz regularly. North Carolina, Nebraska, and Clemson are other schools he’s talking with and trying to set up visits to.
**2021 Miami Palmetto (FL) DT Leonard Taylor visited UM for Junior Day and part of Miami’s pitch to him has been that they want to move him all around the D-Line. According to a source close to the recruitment, Taylor’s mom prefers he stays home at Miami. Taylor said education would be a big factor for him and that he’s planning spring trips to Texas A&M, LSU, Auburn, and Georgia. A decision is expected in December just before the early signing period.
**2021 Miami Palmetto DB Jason Marshall showed up, but sat out with an injury; he expects to be healthy enough to participate in spring ball at Palmetto. Recruiting-wise, Marshall spent a lot of time with CB coach Mike Rumph on his recent Junior Day visit and the two have developed a strong bond. Miami is in his top 7 here, but LSU has been turning up the heat lately; Ed Orgeron has gotten involved and speaks with Marshall regularly. He mentioned possibly making an announcement at the UA game in January.
**2022 Gators WR commit Syveion Ellis had a curious wardrobe choice, showing up to the event wearing a Hurricanes wristband. When asked why he did that, the Edison product said Miami was close to home for him, and he’s enjoyed his recent visits to UM in January and March. Ellis said UM is recruiting him as an athlete than can play offense or defense right now, and that his main contact is TE coach Stephen Field. He is friends with DeeJay Dallas and Zalon’tae Hillery since he is originally from Brunswick, Georgia, and they all keep in touch regularly. Despite all that, he maintained he was locked in with UF, although he would continue to make other visits.
**Former Miami 2021 WR commit Fred Eaford visited for Junior Day back in late January, but mentioned he hasn’t heard from UM since then. He mentioned a big part of his decommitment was the fear of the coaching staff not being at the school by the time he gets to campus. He says he still has a lot of love for Miami and that Louisville is one school pushing hard for him right now.
**I didn't see enough of his reps to make him a top performer, but 2021 Chaminade-Madonna (FL) DT Allan Haye looked impressive on a sequence where he drove Seymore straight backwards and nearly knocked him over, followed by a rep where he moved Seymore back again only for the Miami Central OL to recover in time to draw a stalemate. That was significant because Seymore had not been budged at all for the entire day; Haye demonstrated his raw power is next level.
