This is a good team with holes. And some of holes are much worse then initially thought.
Most people had us losing 2 regular season games, but changed their view when Cam started to go crazy and rightfully so. When you have the number 1 offense, and heisman QB, a top 3 WR, top TE and big OL you can absolutely change your view. There’s no denying that. With that being said…

People can ignore the red flags all they want but they are really starting to show.

-run game diversity / OL splits
-Dawsons feel for the game
- defensive personnel
- defensive alignment/ scheme
- game management/ decisions

To this point in the season we’ve just out-talented other teams. Our offense personnel with Cam ward is a tough out. There’s no doubt there. With that being said we run a very basic system that doesn’t put much stress on teams schematically. So when teams can slow us down a bit it puts us in a terrible position especially considering the defense can’t do anything to help us out.

GT had a very easy game plan and they executed it to a T.

Stack the box defensively and keep the safeties close to the box and keep everything in front. Don’t let up the big play and eventually our offense will sputter and shoot our selves in the foot. Which we did routinely.

Defensively we couldn’t stop the 3 plays they ran. And they ran it over and over to the tune on nearly 300 yards. Paul Johnson was loving it.

On to the defense and the talent. I’ll go by position group.

DL: Mesidor, Barrow, Bain, Baron. They are talented but I personally think they are beaten up a bit due to depth issues. Bain being injured hasn’t helped, but there is no excuse as to why we can’t set a **** edge with this group.

LBs: Mauigoa is clearly only good at rushing the passer and run blitzing. Him is pass coverage and making tackles in the open field is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. He’s straight line only with zero lateral ability. Jimmy Gaines might be a better linebacker.

Wesley: Has decent speed, but he’s very confused out there. Maybe it’s between the ears. I’m not 100% sure what his issue is, but he’s a barrage at best. Thurston Armbrister is better. Need to see what the young guys can do bc the starters are doing nothing.

DBs: a Marshall, Vandy, Washington, and a WV player. We lack the athleticism big time back there and you can see it every play. These guys are stiff, slow, and don’t have the short area burst to make plays. And the back ups don’t seem to offer much. OJ is playing well. Patterson made a couple plays but he often caught up and I watched him trip over his feet a couple times.

Defensively, we lack talent big time and our coaching is helping at all. So I’d call it 50/50 at this point.

Based off history, we typically fold up shop after a game like this. When the words of “control our own destiny, again” come out we typically **** the bed.

We’ve got two games left. One against a team that will be well coached and one that has a potent offense. This will tell us what we really have with this team/ staff.

Can Dawson get Ward to see the light? Can Guidry make chicken salad out of chicken ****?

I think most of you know the answer to the above and know how this story ends based off history.

October is for pretenders. November is for contenders.

Agree with lots here. Lol’ing at the Guidry making chicken salad out of chicken ****. Because I think Guidry is making chicken **** with chicken salad. Personnel decisions can be made and basic adjustments in scheme can help us tremendously. Does this defense have top 10 potential. No. But it can be serviceable with some changes.

1. Move Bain inside at minimum on passing downs.
2. No more stunting by DL. Play with gap integrity.
3. Give Kiko specific assignments - run blitz or rush the qb. Can cover TE in a pinch, but cant cover rbs
4. Play more Pruitt and Bobby Washington until Popo back.
5. Move Powell to nickel. Play Markeith at FS and Quan at SS. FS still weakness, but we get better at 3 positions as Powell plays positon he better at, as do DJP and we get Quan in at SS position.
6. Play Base Cover 2 on the back end. 2 LB on field, one blitz and one in coverage on TE while Porter and JH man up on RB or zone out in the flats. Once Damari comes back, he plays ahead of JH situationally to start with.

Also, is it me or does the running offense and the passing offense look like two completely different offensive systems, doesn’t seem to be any type of deception or diversity between the two
Our running offense consists of running up the middle repeatedly and hitting our OL’s *** until we get a swarm of players to push the RB forward for yards.

That’s always been the case. We’ve pretty much married the air rad with the power run. Great match? Its not horrible. But we are missing plays that challenge the ends, such as sweeps, end arounds and motion.

I dont think our LBs are "slow" but I honestly think it looked like they had never seen or practiced for that offense. I have no idea what they were practicing for all week. I honestly believe they practiced for a spread offense not believing Haynes King was as injured as they said he was (Everyone isnt like you Mario..Some coaches actually give out honest information. Smh)..and by the time they figured out what was happening, it was too late. They were confused all game and ill bet it even shocked GTechs coach. This was one of those games where we were just severely out-schemed and out-coached and Mario has to take this one on the chin.

Nice work on suggestions here @rascon and nice OP @M3N.

Need some changes during the BYE week. It is Wake, not Alabama. Try something different.

The stunting was crazy. Like why? They weren’t dropping back to pass ever and they jet sweeped us to 300 yards. If you stunt you lose the edge with how we execute it.
