2014 RB Sony Michel (American Heritage) has been one of the top players in the country since his 8th grade year. With as crazy as recruiting is nowadays, Michel has attracted a lot of attention from coaches and fans. Stardom is something that the junior has learned to deal with.

“I just try to enjoy it and not let it all overwhelm me. I’m just now starting to realize how crazy it gets. I used to hear other recruits before me talk about how they were happy to get the process over with and I’m like that now sometimes too.”

Michel suffered a torn ACL last season, but luckily has been able to bounce back this year.

“I feel like I’m 100 percent with my knee. It just took a lot of rehab and training.”

The American Heritage running back has a good idea of what to look for in a program at the next level.

“I’ve been keeping all my schools open because I don’t know what the future brings. I’m looking for playing time, a pro-style type of offense, and people that I want to be around.”

Two in-state schools, Miami and Florida State, have been hard after Michel over the past few years.

“Both of them are a little bit similar. They have great running back coaches and head coaches. They’re people that you want to be around.”

He was at Sun Life stadium on Saturday night too see two of his top schools in action.

“The FSU at Miami game was crazy. It was something that I had never really been able to experience down at Miami, especially the fan base. It was a great game.”

Something in particular is sticking out to him about the ‘Canes.

“I have a great relationship with the coaches at Miami especially since they’re the school in my backyard. I see them whenever I want, I talk to them a lot, and they come to my practices.”

Another school has emerged recently for him, as he took the trip up to Athens, Georgia last month to see the Bulldogs in action.

“Georgia was good, it was a different atmosphere for me. The crowd was going crazy.”

Michel says he isn’t afraid of a loaded backfield.

“One of the factors in my decision will be choosing a school that has a great running back there that you’ll want to compete with. I love competition.”

His American Heritage squad is currently sitting at 5-1 with their next game coming up on Friday against Cardinal Gibbons.

We've been recruiting him for 10 years it seems. That will win out in the end. Thanks Pete.

That last sentence is the important one. Just like when Collins told that poster in the stands that he is better than Duke, we need those types of kids. With that type of confidence that when they get on the field they are gonna show out. They are not looking to anybody else to make a play because they are the ones who have been looked to since peewee. We got too many guys waiting for something to happen on offense now.

That type of mentality is the same as guys like clinton portis whenever he tells his stories when we were loaded. The same mindset that when he talked to Edge on his recruiting visit he told him to come here to compete. We need that again

We will get him as Jhall pointed out, we have been on him forever, that means something to recruits. Glad he isn't afraid to compete, we could have some talented backs by the time he comes on board.

I can't even lie, obviously we'd all go to Miami because we are fans on a message board for the ******* team, but if you are a kid that's on the fence, and you attend an SEC home game, it's hard to turn that down. Especially when your comparison is Miami v. UNC in front of a 40% full stadium.

Sony is a fan though. He's not an on the fence guy. He's one of those guys we have to give reasons not to come here and he's been to tons of games around the country. He is a veteran of recruiting for sure.

Yeah I know. He was all about UM his freshman year according to one of his coaches. We get lucky that kids like Duke and Howard are all about repping their cities, a lot of south Florida guys are. If they aren't I think it is tough to go up against a big time SEC school that shows them the quintessential college football experience.

Well said. Duke really was a Godsend last year. Not only for his future but he really got some other guys on board that we would have lost out on. McCord, Bush, Howard are three guys who very well could have gone elsewhere any other year.

A back field of duke, collins, and sony, might our new version of portis, mcgahee, and gore. That would be amazing
