every team has games like these, where they play bad, the other team plays great and you need to pull it out in the end. as noted, UM stayed call and drove the ball 90 yards, scored a td and ran the clock out. last years team would have been 4 and out at the 10 yard line.
morris had his worst game in a long time.
this team is good. is it a top 10 team? not sure, but, that's the way the standings go when you are 6-0 and a major program like UM. our schedule set up great this year from the teams we've played early on and our bye weeks.

morris looked fine from an injury standpoint. him and duke will have 9 more days of rest, so, if they are healthy, they play against wake and get out early if we build a nice lead in the 1st half.
this team is good, i'm not sure a top 10 team, but, the job golden has done is remarkable. what we've accomplished, with the ongoing investigation, probation looming for the last 3 years, self imposed scholarship reductions, 75 players on the team, and to be undefeated is crazy, imo.
due to past coaching and the scholarship reductions, we are still thin depth wise at many positions. unlike the last couple years, where we just had true and redshirt freshmen and sophomores all over the field, we have players a little older but, in some areas, still no one behind them. guys are getting dinged and the back ups are either guys who aren't UM caliber or guys not ready to be in there. depth is still an issue and until we fill in the last couple classes and get back to where we should be, it will be in spots like wr and rb (behind duke and crawford). we are thin at some key spots.

i'd say given what this program has been thru and still is going thru the last 3 years, the way shannon left the roster, the shortage of depth and players on scholarship, this team is playing well and golden has this going in the right direction.
with an upset over fsu, we could run the table, but, i expect us to finish out the regular season with one loss, which would be a huge success.
put things in perspective and enjoy a tough road win and our ability to make adjustments and overcome adversity, and enjoy where we are going.

I agree with what your saying my only gripe is that Miami didn't show everybody there A game. To the diehard fans we knew losing duke and Dorsett would change our offense not to mention all of our safeties were hurt at least one time during the game. We also knew 17 barely practiced because of his ankle which will be problematic all season To the casual fan they'll say "miami's overrated ", I say this game was ripe for the picking for NC. They didn't take advantage . we survived and learned a little bit more about this team

i don't care whether we showed everyone our "A" game. i predicted a blowout. i was wrong. morris was off. i think if we had duke the whole game, it's a different ballgame and we win by 2-3 tds. and dorsett going down took away our depth threat. pounding duke and crawford and having dorsett running dowfield, we would have more big plays. our depth at wr took a huge hit after dorsett going down and behind duke it was only crawford, who was a warrior. if he went down for any amount of plays, we'd have lost.

Maybe it's time to take the shirt of Jamal Carter and get him into the safety rotation. Scott and Jones need to start working into the WR rotation. Dallas and Duck need to get 20 touches a game each! Dallas proved he is capable of being our #1 RB.

^^^I've seen Jamal Carter playing special teams so don't believe he has a shirt to burn.

I dunno about that. Don't forget UNC has one of the worst rush defenses in country. Before duke went out he averaged 10 ypc. Crawford was under 5 ypc

c'mon, at the end they had 7 or 8 up in the box, knew we were running and dallas was a man out there. i think they are a good mix and i agree i like dallas when we need a couple yards. great balance, he spins, seems to always fall forward when the play isn't a stretch play.

Good post, 5x. I'm not going to say we're not a top 10 team because I don't think there are that many great teams out there. And everyone struggles at times.

I never thought we were a legit national title contender this year though. There are still too many holes on this team (when 30 is logging minutes at Safety it's no different than Jeff Popovich playing Safety back in the 90s), and if Morris continues to play like he has been it basically destroys your offense against a quality defense like VT or fsu. I'm just really glad we won last night because we would have had zero margin for error in the Coastal had we lost.

with 9 more days, it seems like scott should be back since he was close this game, or so it seemed.
maybe carter does need to get some time in the blowouts like wake and uva, but, more to get ready for next year.

our depth and experience is still a problem, like i said, at wr, rb, safety. golden will plug those roster holes this class, hopefully, but, as someone else said maybe in another thread, we are like a dam. we are still just plugging in and filling at some positions and our ability to hold it together to this point has been amazing. and the schedule has played to our favor this year.

We still lack speed at DB and LB. At times, our guys looked like they were running in quicksand.

Yep, it all about surviving these types of game, I see some people post they dont even felt like we won. We still have holes on this team, we need as many wins to recruit on the road as possible. You take the W. Especially on the road, especially when you lose top offensive weapons and the remaining is throwing up balls for grab.

We move forward, as long as we win the games we are supposed to we will have had a GREAT season and can continue bringing in quality players. Great win, last few years that is a definite loss and maybe even a blowout loss on the road. Unlike Golden every coach loves to pour it on...

We would have won by 2-3 TDs if we stopped playing like vaginas in the red zone last night. What did we have, 4 maybe 5 drives that resulted in 6 points in the red zone, maybe 3-4 of those were in goal line range.

morris was off. missed a wide open td early in the game and overthrew. a healthy duke makes them commit more to the run, especially after his long run. but, that's the game.

franchise, what I didn't like was the missed tackles. a ton of freaking missed tackles. looked like the last few years and not like we have tackled up until last night.

Agreed on all points. We're a good team (and even good teams come out flat every now and then) but we're not yet an elite team. We're getting there. The biggest concern IMO is Morris. I'm no longer expecting him to pull his head out of his ***. He is what he is -- An inconsistent QB who shows flashes of brilliance because he has a cannon for an arm but is prone to making poor throws because he is lazy with his feet and makes poor decisions.

morris just looks to throw 50 yards on every play instead of hitting walford or the back out of the backfield when nothing is open downfield.

He tried to throw short twice... Hit a UNC DL once and Seantrel's helmet once!

mw, lol. yeah, one was a screen. but, on one occasion he threw to a back in the flat for a decent gain and walford on a couple occasions. I have to think walford is open more than he is getting thrown to.
