for those who know or have an opinion. THX in advance

What's the deal with Lockhart? Does he know the playbook?

Are Davon Johnson and K.Tompkins showing improvement or are they the best of the rest?

Does OL Hunter Wells have a future at Miami?

Does WR K. Carter and WR M. Jones have a future at Miami?

Do you mean the true Fr Jontavious Carter and D'Mauri Jones?

Johnson and kt probably won't produce. I expect Lockhart to shirt. Wells will be lost in shuffle. I like carter and jones but they are the same type player. It will be one or the other IMO.

Id say Wells will be the next one to transfer. I just dont see any playing time for him here. Lockhart will play once he gets the playbook down. Cater and Jones will most likely RS.I personally expect Jones to be a big time pickup for us in time. As far as KT and DJ,i refuse to read into anything good about them till they do it during a game.

If Wells does leave and without Alexis, this is our OL depth chart in 2014:

OT
Bunche
Flowers (unproven)
Gadbois (unproven)

OG
Feliciano
Isidora (unproven)
Gall (assuming he enrolls)

C
McDermott (unproven)

Do we want to depend on 2014 kids to start or contribute as true FR? lol. Do we want to face Eddie Goldman with walkons in the 2 deep? lol.

If not, we had better start stockpiling OL now.

Everyone keeps screaming about DL holes. We have TWELVE kids on the DL that will still be around in 2014, and that's not even including kids like Bain and Bostwick who are Cane leans right now. And that's for only 4 starting spots. OL starts FIVE and we have SEVEN lousy kids set up.

We need OL and we need OL now.

Hawaii, I agree with your overall premise, and believe the coaches are realizing this now, as well. I believe we do end up with 4 OL in this class. With Gall already in, and Kirkland at the top of our boards, we need to find two more through the course of the season. Ideally one from Juco or prep (or transfer) to give us a little experience.

Nearly all of the "unproven" guys on your list will be known elements in a couple of months, so we'll have a lot more to go on. Everyone of those guys will play this year, except Gall, of course.

So those with answers. Do you see or seen practice or scrimmages

not I. my answers are based on practice reports, weight room reports, roster spots at each position, and common football knowledge. im not "in the know" by any means. Just my speculation.

I have not seen any practices. The following are things I have heard:

Robert Lockhart has made some spectacular, highly athletic catches but does not have an adequate understanding of the playbook.

Davon Johnson and Kendall Tompkins are local Miami kids, members of the recruiting class of 2008. Neither produced anything in his first four years on the team. I have not been hearing much about Davon, but Kendall has received a lot of praise from the coaches for his work in the fall camp.

Hunter Wells was a member of the recruiting class of 2011. He was extremely raw at the time, but the staff was impressed by his foot speed and overall athleticism. I have heard no mention of him during the fall camp.

Carter and Jones are both 6' 4". I think they red shirt unless one of them gets used as a red zone guy.

About Carter, Lockhart, and Jones (all three mentioned in OP), here is a snippet from the Sports Buzz in today's Miami Herald:

At least two of five freshmen receivers will play, with third-teamers Malcolm Lewis and Herb Waters trying to crack the top-four rotation. Robert Lockhart can make dazzling catches in traffic but has fallen behind Lewis (a polished route runner, quick and a red zone threat) and Waters (who is “fast, smooth, elusive,” Fisch said, and better than what UM coaches thought).
