Could we have given him five plays. Plays that he already knows (out, Fly, screen, double move, cross) then play him. His hands looked good and we could use his yards after catch. Does a receiver have to know the entire playbook to play?

I think you have to look at it from the other side of your point as well. Is it worth bringing a player that will only be useful on five plays than a player who knows most of the playbook and can be more versatile?

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing him replace Thompkins though and let Miami use them like Scott last year just on certain plays.

They have to be prepared and know the playbook. Morris may need to audible out, etc.

Yes, if you don't know the offense and a combo route is called or you misread the coverage and break a route off incorrectly, it can cost you a turnover. And if the QB doesn't trust his receivers to know the offense, he probably won't look that way.

the extended version of my answer.

Love Lockharts potential but if he isn't ready, then we have other young receivers that need seasoning as well.

I would hate to see Scott, Lewis, and Dorset lose snaps if the backup isn't ready. Those guys need as much work as possible.

He knows the playbook very well. He is just not ready to play yet

Not if he hasn't earned it over the other receivers.

Not to mention that it gives kids the sense that they don't need to learn the playbook to see the field. Every kid would want 5 plays given to them even though they didn't earn it.

I'm curious, how do you know if he's ready or not?

With Thompkins not over the hands issue, there are definitely snaps at WR to be had. Love his potential, sure hope he earns the PT and balls out when given the chance.
