Who here feels the Public and Private schools shouldnt play each other until a consolidated State Championship?

What I mean is all 8 classifications in Florida have a Public and Private side. Then there is a Public and Private Playoff. Finally the Public State Champion plays the Private State Champion in Orlando.

Thoughts?

It’s not really black and white like that. You can’t just group all private and all public together. Some recruit. Some don’t. Things like that. I say leave it. But I am no expert

Same can be said about the public schools.

The problem is, there's not a lot of private schools with large enrollments. At least in Broward there aren't. School classifications are broken down by enrollment numbers. They don't want to have huge 8A and 7A schools playing tiny 2A and 3A schools.

Doesnt STA fill their schedules with Little sisters of the Poor of Broward?

Not really. They usually schedule pretty well out of district. They have De La Salle, Carol City, Mandarin in Jacksonville, Miramar, Deerfield Beach, and Western. Their district is pretty bad. Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, and S. plantation but they can’t control those.

No. They play the teams in their district, which isn't great but Plantation is one of Broward's better teams and they schedule a bunch of national powerhouse programs. They definitely don't duck competition.

Texas does it this way. Has kept private schools at bay for a long, long time.
The difference is, in Texas, public school programs have a ton of money. Florida doesn't allot a bunch of tax dollars towards high school sports and most of the better public school programs are in poorer neighborhoods so they don't exactly have booster support. The suburban public schools get a ton of community support but they mostly suck at football.

The school choice has put a loop hole in the "recruiting" for public schools. The problem is the schools and communities have to be willing to do it. Cooper City wont take kids just to make their football team better, the community would lose its mine with the concern of the schools reputation and what keeps the housing market so high. Everglades really surprises me that they havent been able to do a better job. They care a lot for football and are in a prime spot to get kids from a big area.

Why shouldn't the best teams play during the year. It is better for the teams, players and fans. Columbus playing South Dade and Booker T is awesome. Gulliver playing a tough schedule is great. Anyone thinking that the private schools have a recruiting advantage is sadly mistaken. With new state HS rules, the street agents are running the show.

I dont get what you are trying to get at?

The best can play for an Consolidated State Championship

The poster I quoted said that Texas keeps public and private school programs separate to keep private schools "at bay". Because Texas public schools receive a ton of money, there isn't the inherent advantage of playing at a private school like there is in Florida. Private school programs here have top of the line facilities and huge staffs that are highly compensated. Public school programs don't have the money to pay for top notch facilities and coaching staffs. Most public school assistant coaches are volunteers.

They suck and arent really in a spot for prime talent. Theyare out west and it isnt loadrd with talent out there. Flanagan has never really been anything other than when they hit lightening with devin Bush. Miramar talent is in the east. And those kids go to miramar or other big privates schools they are recruited to like (heritage, chaminade, sta)

Western and Douglas do alright out west don't they?

Douglas is horrible and Western has become competitive but only because they started recruiting kids the last few years. Pretty much every public school west of University Drive (27th ave in Dade) is crappy at football. Flanagan had a run a few years ago under Devin Bush but they stocked that team with a bunch of kids from out of town. Half the team had an address in the same Pembroke Pines apartment complex.

The school choice thing pretty much means you can recruit kids from out of area but they need to provide their own transportation and the school you transfer to can't be at or near capacity. A lot of the suburban schools out west are overcrowded.

I was just about to chime in as well. This is the most talent western has had in awhile and they have already lost 2games lol.

No schools west in broward has talent. For the most part that's the real suburb kids whose parents likely are in favor of the targeting rule
