It’s been same result with different head coaches for over 20 years and counting. How did a school known for hiring smart head coaches like Schenellenberger, Jimmy Johnson, Dennis Erickson and Butch Davis all of a sudden lose the ability to hire smart and disciplined coaches? What’s the problem lately? You can recruit all the good players in the world, but you still have to coach them up and make smart game day decisions to give your team a chance.

Seems every new HC feels the need to start from scratch - and invent things just for the "building" excuse.

I'm not football smart - but it seems to me that canny, intuitive, clever Coordinators - preferably with an established, winning characteristic - which will be accompanied USUALLY by a large paycheck is the way to go.

The second thing is that the most successful coaches - even those we had during out Golden years - entered with some ideas - but with an open mind to be open to new things that work - and not have a firm, hardened mindset on HIS way of doing things.

Schnellenberger was innovative that way - JJ came in with a gunslinger approach to just win and gave the players a lot of leeway, Erikson didn't rock the boat - he just improved it, and Butch from under JJ embraced a lot of JJ's ideas on how to make the most out of what he had - not force the team into a hard-frame drawing.

I think Mario is a good coach - just not a great coach.

And I don't know where in Hades we'll find a great coach. We have some good talent - but I see too many dumb mistakes - DUMB mistakes - that show talent over smarts and discipline are not successful.

We play - dumb.

Ever since Butch left there has only been one true coaching search….Al Golden. 5 out of our last 6 coaches Miami had their “guy”

Coaches aren't hired at Miami they're installed. No different than US politicians and that's why we fail. Richt, Diaz, and now Cristobal were all hand picked with no other interviews conducted. How can any serious organization function that way ? A few HC interviews should be a minimum and we haven't done it in modern times hence our results.
