Pro Canes Update: Week 2

Week two of the NFL season has come and gone. Here is your Pro Canes update.

Frank Gore ran the ball 21 times for 61 yards while Travis Homer ran the ball three times for 21 yards.

Braxton Berrios caught six passes for 59 yards and recorded his first career touchdown.

Jimmy Graham had one catch for 18 yards. Chris Herndon had one catch for four yards.

Ereck Flowers, Brandon Linder, and Tyree St. Louis all got playing time along the offensive line.

Joe Jackson recorded three tackles while Calais Campbell had five tackles and a sack. Allen Bailey had two tackles.

Shaq Quarterman got playing time and finished with two tackles. Denzel Perryman had three tackles.

Rayshawn Jenkins had three tackles from his safety position. Deon Bush had one tackle and also came down with an interception. Corn Elder also had three tackles.

Michael Badgley was two for two on kicks with a long of 41 yards. Pat O’Donnell had three punts for 134 yards with an average of nearly 45 yards per punt.

Nice to see Shaq got some action! I'm disappointed we're not seeing more difference making from our alumni though. Where's Duke, Olsen, Dorsett? Why hasn't Miller found a home or is he done now? What's up with Vernon and AQM?

Duke is buried behind chubb and Kareem hunt I believe. Olsen is getting up there in years too. Not sure about Miller, he has had a good career. Dorset Vernon and AQM are all decent, but not good players. Easily replaced production imo.

Released by Washington in March, Dee Delaney had a tryout with Green Bay in August, but wasn't signed. Another 'Cane Punter, Justin Vogel, had a tryout with New England on Sept. 1, but wasn't signed. Ray-Ray Armstrong was not re-signed by the Cowboys and had a tryout with the Raiders on Sept. 1, but wasn't signed by Las Vegas either. After being cut by the Patriots on Sept. 5, Lamar Miller had tryouts with the Bills on Sept. 7 and then the Colts on Sept. 14, but wasn't signed by either team. Cut by the Dolphins on Sept. 4, Danny Isidora had a tryout with the Chiefs on Sept. 7, but wasn't signed. [CORRECTION: Isidora was signed to Kansas City's PS the next day, Sept. 8.] Erik Swoope had a tryout with the Cowboys on Sept. 16, but wasn't signed. DLs Olsen Pierre (Raiders in 2019) and Ufomba Kamalu (Ravens last season) are currently unsigned free agents.

Injury Report: Phil Dorsett was put on IR (foot) by Seattle on Sept. 22, but under this year's rules, he can be re-activated in 3 weeks. Cleveland's David Njoku (knee, IR on Sept. 14) and Buffalo's Jon Feliciano (pectoral surgery, IR on Sept. 6) are expected back at some point as well. On the other hand, Chicago's Artie Burns (knee, IR on Aug 20) is not expected to be activated during the 2020 season. Houston's Duke Johnson (ankle) hasn't played since the Texans opener, when he was injured after just 5 carries, but he hasn't been placed on IR and remains on Houston's active roster.

In other recent transactions: Anthony Chickillo was signed by Denver off of the Saints PS on Sept. 18. KC McDermott was activated from Jaguars PS on Sept. 24, but returned to Jacksonville's PS a day later. Cut by the Browns on July 31 and unsigned after tryouts with the Steelers, Raiders & Packers, Jermaine Grace was signed to the Giants PS on Sept. 24 after a successful tryout. Unfortunately, the Giants cut Grace after just two days on their PS. Rookie Trajan Bandy was cut from the Steelers PS on Sept. 25. Rookie Lawrence Cager was activated by the Jets from their PS on Sept. 26.

Great info and thanks for providing. But, who is Erik Swoope?

Erik Swoope played basketball at the U from 2010-14. Like Jimmy Graham, he switched from being a basketball forward to being a tight end in football. Unlike Graham, Swoope went straight into the NFL after using up his 4 years of basketball eligibility. Although Swoope could have played football for the Hurricanes with his final year of remaining college eligibility like Graham did, he chose not to. After playing in 24 NFL games since 2014 with the Colts, Swoope was briefly with the Saints in 2018 (DNP) before returning to the Colts, and then being waived by the Oakland Raiders on July 30, 2019. Trying for a comeback, Swoope signed with the 49ers on Aug. 25, 2020, but was cut four days later. As mentioned above, after the 2020 season had already started, Swoope had a tryout with the Cowboys, but wasn't signed by Dallas earlier this month.
