For those that may know...during camp, how much press coverage have the DBs/defense been running?

They work one on one all the time..tons of drills.

speed is better great coverage is still tough, but we very fast wrs...

should be better

Press man?

Or press bail? (zone)

I know Golden and D'Onofrio love them some press bail. (cover-2 or cover-3 press)

Read this and it will answer your question and make you feel sick at the same time about UM's bull**** soft zone coverage for" keeping on eye on your luggage" as D'Onofrio likes to preach.

Press coverage in terms of a defensive package...not 1 on 1s.

Either man up coverage or press bail....are we practicing this more?

Thanks for all the videos... I literally didn't watch any of them as it's a new season.

The video's were made as visual aids by UM's coaching staff to share their philosophical approach to the game. So you will see the same concepts this year as well, you can't change the stripes on zebra.

Press-bail is great because it invites QB's to throw the 9 route/fade. Little do they know, at the snap of the ball your CB's are turning and running into their deep 3rd or 1/4 zone. CB should usually get a PBU or pick.

Do you really want young, inexperienced corners playing press with Kacy Rodgers and Highsmith back there and no pass rush? This is the year where we can afford to be aggressive.

This is the area I am most interested in seeing this year. The criticisms of our DC borderline on absurd at times, but the one area I think most people agree that was frustrating was not adapting our D to fit the players we had. Yes we had **** talent in spots but we also asked them to do things that were unfair IMO.

Now you take a look at the roster we have now and I challenge anyone to find a more physically capable group of DBs in the country. Gunter is as imposing a CB as you can find and uses his skills well. Howard is as in your face and aggressive as anyone, and now he has the body to match his attitude. He will be a handful for any receiver at the LOS because he is the complete package now, though he lacks the top end speed. Crawford gets a ton of flak but he isn't afraid to man up and get physical. He laid some serious hits last season and our CBs as a whole hit with authority.

This season I feel we finally have enough athleticism and talent at the safety spots to let our CBS take more chances. Our safeties have been probably the worst in the history of the program the last few years, but suddenly, especially if Deon Bush can get back, we are loaded with it.

I'm very curious to see how we use the biggest strength of our defense, and possibly our team.

Be more interesting if we spent less time on philosophicals and more time winning.

I can philosophical us four National Championships in a row.

But the NCAA doesn't count that.

Good post. I too think the secondary is the strength of the defense. The nickel packages will be interesting to watch because we have the ability to big with an extra safety or small with a corner. I'm also curious to see ABurns improvement. IMO, it would be ideal if Burns could step up and hold down the field corner position. That would allow Howard to move inside and cover the slot where I think we need a lock down presence. I really think his man coverage ability is more valuable inside than outside. In addition, Howard is pretty instinctive and that trait should help the linebackers in middle of the field coverages.

Gunter is solid as a boundary corner. Crawford brings an enforcer type mentality that's sorely needed, and I'm looking forward as to how he is used. Carter is another interesting piece. If I recall correctly, I think he played nickel linebacker in high school, so he could step down as a box player and still provide decent coverage.

Interesting group, no doubt.....let's see how they work as a unit......

I don't think much will change in terms of schematics. The players can only go up from where we have been. I just don't think it will be enough for us to be better than average. End of season talking point's. " Man we jumped from 120 to 60. Next year we will be top 25 for sure". Really looking forward to seeing us against UL

I wouldn't call that article a slam by Saban. It talks about him teaching a shuffle technique rather than the backpedal. Bama still plays press/press bail, Saban just teaches a different drop technique.

A"labama’s cornerbacks spend about 90% of the game in a press coverage position, from which they either stay in press or can bail to a zone or off-man position "
