Canes led all teams with preseason ACC selections (5) & Cam Ward was voted POTY.

Only 7 times in the past 20 seasons has a team been voted to finish with most ACC selections & POTY. How did those 7 fare?

- 5 of the 7 won the ACC

- 6 of the 7 won double digit games

- 5 of the 7 finished ranked top 4

- Only once did a team fail to win double digit games (08 Clemson) who’s OC that year happened to be Billy Napier.

“Whose OC happened to be Billy Napier”

AWESOME

Post of the Week candidate right here! @DMoney

Time to deliver. I’ve said in other threads that there is a long list of pundits, pods, and betters that are picking us to make the playoff. It’s nut up or shut up time

This is good work.

Can I get the 2 that didn't win the ACC and the 2 that didn't finish top 4 please?
They’re one in the same, the two who didn’t win the ACC, also didn’t finish top 4. Yet one team still had a very good season.

2008 Clemson (7-6), coach fired mid season. OC Napier fired after season.

2012 Clemson (11-2), went 7-1 in ACC but lost tiebreaker to 11-1 (7-1) FSU due to H2H. Beat top 10 LSU in NY6 bowl.

Not to mention, since the CFP took over for BCS (2014) there’s been FOUR previous cases (before UM this preseason).

- Combined 66 wins & 5 losses
- All four made CFP & won ACC
- Two national titles

& certain posters kept denying me when I said there are zero excuses this yr. Anything less than 10 wins this season is a failure in yr 3 w/ this talent. Everyone is bullish on us, and we still have some trying to manufacture reasons why an 8 win season is considered progress. Bullllll ****; this team + schedule is primed to be a 10+ win team.

We deserve the preseason hype; the ? is, will we now live up to it?

I think a lot of the national media is finishing up their preseason prep and the lightbulb is going off

I just wanna make the playoff, and Miami is +210 on FanDuel to do that. Implied odds on that is about 32%.

So we got a 1 in 3 shot to make the playoff, per FanDuel. Let’s get it done.
I even did the unthinkable of putting a buck and a quarter on winning it all and Ward winning the Heisman. Lol, 30k payout.

Think about it, while there is always a lil luck in an entire season to finish on top, we are loaded not just in the conference, but in the country. No reason we can not end the 20 or so years of avg play.

Ward, Martinez and a solid rb room overall. The only team in the country with 3 starting wr's with over 800 yds each and again, depth behind them. TE room I will have to trust the coaches since bottom line will be game results, and so far they all look good. Even Lofton has turned heads at his versatility.

Offensive line is great and has very good depth and will be one of the toughest in the country. Saw glimpses of this last season. This will make our offense go with the players we have.

And, of course our D will absolutely be better. Picked up pieces through recruiting and the portal that give us more depth. Just like the offense. And I would not call the secondary a weakness, but between the d front and lb'ers, if there was a worry, I guess this group could be it.

At the end of the day, we just need to stay healthy and injury free. Alot of bad luck over the years and we have the pieces in place to make a run. We may not be the very best now, but we just have to get in the playoffs, and anything can happen. TCU did it, along with some other in the past, and they do not come close to the talent across the board that we have right now,

Finally, execute. Practicing against each other daily with all this talent will only make us better as the season goes. Everyone does their job, we will be fine. As for coaching, CMC needs to let his coaches handle their responsibilities. Coaching is one thing I am not worried about this season. The Georgia Tech game hopefully turned a light on when it comes to game day coaching. I still think that result was devastating to the team and a huge mental hit to a much better season.

I love this post so much, right down to the Napier mention.
