Potential Portal DB’s (CB’s & S’s only)

I genuinely don't understand the DB evaluations in the portal. Is it just that we're overthinking? Are we really that bad at identifying what a good CB looks like? I just don't get it.

That’s your opinion.
Several people, media members, fans of other rival teams of course, were laughing at us saying same old Miami after the ‘Cuse catastrophe. **** several on this board think we are a laughing stock. So because it may not equate that to YOU, doesn’t mean we aren’t.

My comment that stated we deserve what we get is completely aligned with us prioritizing trash like this in the portal. When we get bombed on all fall again next year, which will likely lead to us blowing more opportunities, we will deserve exactly what we get and deserve to continue to be a laughing stock.

Only to hear in the spring that we have to manage our visits wisely because we don’t have many left

Just go with quantity. decent odds the evals will suck anyways. Instead of 1-2 overpaid portal DBs that are bad, we can get 4-5 and hope a couple are slightly better than advertised.
 
idk how we can evaluate guys who fall down on tape and cover poorly and go "yep that's the guy we need"

are we back in the golden era?
 
Trying to be serious here for a minute, I legit don't get why our focus would be on multi-year corners. We signed 6+ corners the past two classes. We need corners who've proven they're good in college. There are a ton of them in the portal right now.

This literally must be some analytics service we're all subscribed to that rates him pretty highly likely in terms of athleticism (like some on field speed/athleticm score type thing) and/or a specific coverage grade like in man coverage he's good, and in zone he's bad or something....

At least there is no questioning his length. He looks well built. And if he is on the faster end of the 4.5 40 range, that's good.

But dude has played what like 3 games. Look at CB we need depth guys anyways so if he's a cheap guy they view as having potential, Its whatever. But you don't get this guy expecting him to be your starter. We need 2 Starting quality CBs - one of which at the nickel spot. I'd go for the VTech dude probably.

Doesn’t change anything for me. Those teams didn’t struggle like we did in the secondary this year in every single FBS game they played in minus 1 and make mediocre QBs have career days. I care what WE do, and his play in 2024 was horrendous and isn’t what we should be prioritizing. We literally heard the exact same thing about Richard 2 years ago, and I fell for it. I’ve lied to myself more than a few times about some of these portal takes. Won’t be doing it again, promise you that. On the actual field, it doesn’t appear that this dude could play dead in a western film.


But ya know what, I’ll hush now. I promise, ya’ll got it lol. Is what it is and I’ve said my .02 so whatever. You make your bed you lay in it.
 
There's got to be something brewing. There's absolutely no way Mario goes the bargain bin route again.

Our DB room was probably the worst at Miami in 40 years. It cost us at least a playoff berth. He's well aware.

If someone has a leaky roof, its hard justify giving them money to fix the damages if they aren't going to fix the leak itself.

That's how you lose NIL support. There's no way Mario does this. (right?!)
