I like where we ended up with a class. I'm not going to pay attention to the rankings that much, we ended up around 20th on all sites. Not too bad for a transition year. But.. we signed a small 18 man class, we had room for 22. In comparison UF signed 25, and UM and UF both had an average rating of about 88.5 on 247 and they ended up 12th. I think we got some true difference makers and guys that can play right away. Without Richt, I really don't think we land Bethel, Richards, or Bruce. We had no chance at Young, Haskins, Finley, Martin, or Johnson. So, great job by Richt imo.
Now looking forward.. In 2017 we will have 5 spots open (4 spots we didn't fill in 2016, unless there is another addition coming, and the 1 last scholarship we have to forfeit from Shapiro). We also lose (9) Coley, Lewis, Grace, Gall, Isidora, Jenkins, Carter, Elder, and Dobard to graduation, and I assume AQM leaves early. That gives us the ability to sign 15 guys as of now in this next class. I'd expect to see some more attrition. Probably from the lower end OL and LB that are clearly being recruited over, as well as the possibility of a few leaving early. My guess is we sign around 20 give or take next year, another small class. We have 11 committed right now. I'd like to see Rumph use his Heritage connection and get Slaton and Herbert (OL) as well as Ellis (DT). Looks like we are the favorite for Deejay Dallas (WR), and Anthony McFarland (RB) right now based on relationships with Richt and Brown, respectively. Then, we need a few more WR and CB to go along with the LB we have committed, Burns at RB, and more. Focal points for 2017 (CB, WR, DT, OL)
Then, I think it gets really exciting in 2018. I think this is the class that truly makes the U what it's supposed to be again. Everything is lining up to be special. The coaches 3rd year at a school is typically the best year recruiting, when they really turn up the heat. It also just happens to be a year that it looks like our roster is shaping up to be able to take 25-30 in 2018. South Florida is loaded with studs in this class. Al Blades Jr, Asante Samuel Jr, Daquiris Wiggins, Thomas Burns, Billy Joseph, Jalen Patterson, Josh Jobe, etc. If Richt and co can really get this thing going the next couple of seasons and we will be ready to roll and lock down that 2018 class with all these kids. 10 wins in 2016 and something similar in 2017 and I think we are set to take off.
Can't wait for spring to get here and then the season before we know it. Going to be a long wait, seems we are all very anxious!
