There is not much that needs to be said about this guy. But I want to take a look at this from a different angle.

For years I was on the bandwagon of if they didn't want to be here we would find someone to come in and work harder and become a star. I now realize that this is not the case. The staff has to do what ever it take to get these superstars to sign up. This staff has proven they can develop talent and we see that in the results of Duke, Tracy, and Stacey. The 3 best players on this team were the 3 highest rated recruits.

If Miami wants to get back to being Miami we cannot afford to lose the best players in South Florida. They are the difference between ACC Champ game and a National Title.

I am optimistic with the class coming in this year. I hope many of those freshman difference makers like Coley and Duke are on defense.

I find it funny the negative thought thread got 16 responses and the positive thread got zero. Shows where the frame of mind of people on the board is.

You are right that if we keep the South Florida studs at home we will be in great shape. I don't think that Duke, Stacey and to a large extent Tracy are good examples of this staff developing talent.

Stacy and Duke are just flat out naturals out there. With Tracy I think he is more comfortable after one year but I would argue that this system is not conducive to exploiting his natural talent.

I have been thinking about this for weeks. I just hate to start up the "wait til next year" talk. If our playmakers can stay healthy and we have a good QB transition, next year is more promising than most in recent memory. I know it would probably never happen due to measures taken by coaches to prevent injury, but imagine a Duke/Coley kick return combo lol. Deadly!

You have to find the stars with the right attitude. That will work hard and do the little things everyday to get better. Not rely on talent and expect things to be given to them.

We have a lot to offer recruits, however if more fans went to the games to support the team rather than *****ing about them our biggest negative in recruiting would be gone. Now that the sanctions have been announced that's the big thing that will work against the U.

Regardless of what the perception was in the past we never had great fan support, even in the championship seasons. Hopefully we can get a 50-55,000 seat stadium somewhere closer to campus.

5star talent playing like 5star talent....

This is the norm at other programs/fan bases? Why is it rocket science to ours?

Just rewatched the Pitt game and on the 2nd Coley TD they turned to James Coley on the sideline looking at Golden and giving him a smirk, like, "Told ya this boy was good".

To me, Coley is yet another example of how "can't miss" local recruits exist. Had we lost out on him, some apologist posters would have said it's OK and trotted out the same old lame-**** excuses: "We only want kids who want to be Canes." "We'll be fine without him; Florida is loaded at WR next year." "No one recruit is make or break for a class." Total and complete bull****.

Some kids are make or break. Players as talented as Coley can change the complexion of your team. Add a couple more Coley-type recruits to our offense (Dalvin Cook, Michel, Dixon) and to our defense, and we're markedly better. Ever year, in South Florida, there are recruits that good. We've just been missing out on way too many of them, including, for instance, Mathew Thomas (would be our best LB next year) and Amari Cooper (arguably more talented than Coley).

There are no more excuses. The looming specter of sanctions has passed. The scholly losses are completely manageable. That's it. I know that recruiting for Miami is not easy when recruits compare facilities, fan bases, and stadiums, etc., but the bottom line is that we need a head coach who can overcome those disadvantages and keep the best local products at home. That, to me, is Golden's first and foremost priority. He should focus most of his energies on recruiting, and he should hire smart, sound coordinators on both sides of the ball, including defense, where his general philosophy should be supplanted by a new one.
