Louisiana ppl definitely rep The U!! Where I stay there are a lot of Miami fans here.. During the season a lot ppl was watching Miami around here..
I'll second that. Miami needs to take advantage of their popularity. I'm not that familiar with the 337 but I Miami Is extremely popular in Shreveport, Monroe, and New Orleans
Given that supposed popularity I'm just disappointed that we don't get more kids. Maybe LSU locks them up with bags.
I remember when we recruited Storm Johnson out of Georgia. We got some posters, either here or the old Grassy, telling us there were growing communities north of Atlanta with a lot of Miami fans. Supposedly many people had relocated from south Florida after Hurricane Andrew. I expect Richt to exploit Georgia heavily as he is trying to do given his longtime connections to the state. I wish we had that kind of presence in Louisiana. Funny how recruiting changes based on the history of the coach: when Hubbard Alexander was on staff, he used to get a lot of kids from Chicago. HS football in that area is pretty decent. He also recruited Memphis and brought in some good talent. When JJ and Butch came in and ran recruiting, we went more heavily into Texas and to some extent other nearby parts of the country (Rusty Medearis came from Ozarks in Missouri. I assume that is rural area near Arkansas.) We used to recruit Pennsylvania heavily, but that seems to have declined. We got a lot of great players out of New Jersey: McKinnie, Greg Mark, Danny Stubbs, etc. Complain about coal shovelers, but we could use some on the OL. And Pitt beat us this year.
Richt has been recruiting mostly Florida and I have no problem with that. He can get almost anything he needs, except maybe for some QBs and linemen. Butch, when he was recruiting coordinator for JJ, said he could recruit a national championship contender recruiting mostly in south Florida. That's a bit of an exaggeration but not much. We couldn't get our QBs just from south Florida nor our OLs.
Well, the popularity definitely came back hard with the turnover chain. Since every high school is doing it, I imagine in a few years it will just be a part of the game that every team has. As the originator, Miami coaches should cash in on what they invented.
Two words: ED REED. Get him on staff. Louisiana connection...check
