I'll be at the Dome tonight to see if Anthony Pooka Williams can be stopped. This kid is one of the best playmakers Louisiana has seen since Kevonte Turpin. Not sure if he is on the radar but he should be. If you have a chance, the game will be streamed online. Hahnville vs. Zachary in the 5A championship game. Game time is 7 but it will probably start around 8.

Few thoughts from the game:

Pooka carried that team on his shoulders. If he wasn't running the ball they lost yards or threw an incomplete pass or interception. Pooka scored a touch down and then took 2 series off - I think hurt his ankle and they were down 20-7. But every time he touched the ball he made half the team miss. Amazing to watch. Never seen anyone with stop and go quickness like that. Has amazing balance and is very hard to take down

The best HS running back I have seen in the dome since Warrick Dunn

Supposedly he does have an offer from Miami

I hope Miami had a suite at the stadium because every team had a gold turnover chain

Hey Boot. Have you seen any pics with the kids wearing the turnover chain. Thanks.

I'd rather see him in a Canes jersey vs a turnover chain!

Im guessing LSU will have him signed and paid....

I'll second that. Miami needs to take advantage of their popularity. I'm not that familiar with the 337 but I Miami Is extremely popular in Shreveport, Monroe, and New Orleans

I spent some time talking to Hahnville people and supposed "family." Not sure the exact story - but some coach who went to Kansas is bitter with someone at LSU and has been extremely thorough in evaluating Louisiana and offering early. I was wondering why so many of Louisiana's top players had committed to Kansas so early. And Kansas offered Pooka well before anyone else. Then LSU and Miami offered (that was news to me - kudos to our staff). Then Saban offered along with everyone else in the country. Coach Salt, who has plenty of experience with talent, said Saban has calls him more about Pook than any player he has ever coached.

Obviously LSU has an advantage. And Saban usually get what he wants. But the kid is definitely interested in Miami. He will be more utilized in Miami's offense than Alabama's. Now, he definitely fits nicely in LSU OC Canada's offense, but I would not expect to see Canada at LSU for that long. Him and Orgeron are just not on the same page and he is not a great fit for the SEC West.

I think we have a shot at Pooka. Despite, Saban drooling over him, Bama bagmen have a history of going after defense and OL, not scatbacks. LSU money seems to be holding tight to see what happens with Canada, Orgeron, and AD Alleva.

One thing to be taken from this is there is a lot of talent in Louisiana that goes unnoticed, even by LSU. I wish Miami would have someone on top of it like the vengeful guy from Kansas

Maybe, but our recruiting has never been the same in that area since Curtis Johnson left the staff. That probably coincided with the improvement in the LSU program. There was a time when LSU was kind of mediocre. We beat them by a lot in their place in '88. Mike Archer, former UM DB and asst.coach was their head coach back then. They had a string of mediocre coaches until i guess Saban came in.

We had great recruiting in Louisiana some years ago, apparently until Curtis Johnson left our staff (at least what some insider told me years ago). He brought in guys like Reggie Wayne and Ed Reed. We had other starters from Louisiana over the years, but it seems like that state might be the most talented when taking into account its size. More top prospects per person. We've tried to get others but haven't had much success over the past decade or so. Standish Dobard and Gerald Willis are the two most recent I can think of.

One post says the coach is reporting that Saban calls more about this kid than any other coach. Saban has to go out-of-state more than some coaches perhaps because there is not as much talent in Alabama as there is right under our nose in Florida. We're supposedly looking at a bunch of top RBs for 2019 and later and most are right here in-state: Nyquan Wright, Noah Cain (out of state kid who is now instate), the kid from Jax who just committed, maybe McIntosh who might play another position from what I hear.

Given that supposed popularity I'm just disappointed that we don't get more kids. Maybe LSU locks them up with bags.

I remember when we recruited Storm Johnson out of Georgia. We got some posters, either here or the old Grassy, telling us there were growing communities north of Atlanta with a lot of Miami fans. Supposedly many people had relocated from south Florida after Hurricane Andrew. I expect Richt to exploit Georgia heavily as he is trying to do given his longtime connections to the state. I wish we had that kind of presence in Louisiana. Funny how recruiting changes based on the history of the coach: when Hubbard Alexander was on staff, he used to get a lot of kids from Chicago. HS football in that area is pretty decent. He also recruited Memphis and brought in some good talent. When JJ and Butch came in and ran recruiting, we went more heavily into Texas and to some extent other nearby parts of the country (Rusty Medearis came from Ozarks in Missouri. I assume that is rural area near Arkansas.) We used to recruit Pennsylvania heavily, but that seems to have declined. We got a lot of great players out of New Jersey: McKinnie, Greg Mark, Danny Stubbs, etc. Complain about coal shovelers, but we could use some on the OL. And Pitt beat us this year.

Richt has been recruiting mostly Florida and I have no problem with that. He can get almost anything he needs, except maybe for some QBs and linemen. Butch, when he was recruiting coordinator for JJ, said he could recruit a national championship contender recruiting mostly in south Florida. That's a bit of an exaggeration but not much. We couldn't get our QBs just from south Florida nor our OLs.

Boot, any word on the big DT Phillips? Miami not involved?

He is playing in the I-20 all star game in Ruston, LA this Saturday at 2pm.

I don't really have a clue what is going on and I am a little confused about what I have heard in regards to the offers he has. ****, I can't even tell you if he is playing offense or defense this weekend.
