I noticed in Steve Wiltfongs article on junior day that 7 of the lineman he mentioned were 3 star and less while two were blue chippers. The tackle from Kentucky wasn’t even ranked and has a mediocre offer list. I don’t have any issues with this as the NFL draft shows that offensive lineman come from all over and we’ve had success with Cooper and McCoy.

I’m more curious how does the evaluation work where we identify lower ranked guys from New Jersey, Kentucky and Minnesota. Is this the work of a revamped scouting system led my Alonzo Highsmith?

You more than likely answered your own question good sir. Zo most definitely has a say in the offers/evals. The recruiting rankings are largely composed from two criteria: physical measurables & offers sent out by the dominant programs (Bama, UGA, OSU, Clemson).

This and second, no reason to even read into any rankings right now. It’s early March, most don’t have a great handle on who is who yet.

Offensive lineman is the biggest crap shoot in football. Most guys just getting through HS because they are 100 lbs more than the guy across from them on defense and have decent feet.

The answer of evaluation could be a multitude of things. Most probably reached out to the staff to get things started. In years past Miami might have not have made an effort to even try to get them on campus and just dismissed them to even see what they look like and put them through drills.
