petrino and def. cord

Bobby Petrino says he’s changed. But in reporting a story about the new Louisville coach that is in SI’s college football preview, it appears Petrino is still just as difficult to work and play for. Sources with ties to the Cardinals’ football program and Petrino said there’s significant friction between Petrino and feisty defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. The two have feuded often since Grantham’s hiring in January.

So much that one source insists Petrino would have already gotten rid of Grantham if not for his guaranteed five-year contract that pays him nearly $1 million annually. He came to Louisville after four seasons as Georgia’s defensive coordinator. “He’s stuck with him,” a source said.

There’s also still lingering dissension among players about Petrino’s arrival. Some were so unhappy with Petrino’s frigid, explicit demeanor that they considered leaving early for the NFL’s supplemental draft in June according to one source.

“He’s a mean guy,” said Jamaine Brooks, a former Louisville defensive tackle who left this past spring. “He cusses you out. You’re never doing enough. He’s still Bobby Mother------- Petrino.”

Brooks initially supported Petrino’s hiring, which he quickly came to regret. “The way he came in doing business I didn’t like it,” Brooks said. “The way he treated people. He just wasn’t a good coach.”

I make that trade! Petrino for Golden and Grantham for D'Onofrio straight up. Twice on Sunday too!!

I suppose Ignorance is bliss. Most here don't realize how well respected our coaching staff is respected around the country. I have had the opportunity to talk to speak to a couple of coaches from our own conference and they talked about what a great job Miami's coaching staff has done under difficult circumstances. They also think he (Al) will have great success here.
I continually read about how bad our schemes are or why we insist on using certain formations since they don't obviously work. The Major problem has been lack of talent, and the knee jerk reaction is , it's the coaches fault. Normally this is true but normal has not been the case around here the last 3 years. We have recruited with a sword over our head. This is not the 80's or 90's., we are in the information age where bad news or made up news flies around twitter, facebook, etc. faster than you can respond to it . If you think someone else would have handled this situation better or had us in a better position than we are now, then you need to put down the crack pipe. Many here don't realize how close we came to being a permanent non factor in the world of college football.

There are many zealous fans here , but their are also many ignorant ones. It took a lot of hard work and effort both on and especially off the field to prevent this program from going completely down the toilet. But, being that the internet football wizards are infinitely smarter than those payed the big dollars to run the program ,I can't understand why no other college has hired them on to their adivisory board or even coaching staff.

I for one would never want that piece of crap Petrino coaching here. He will begone from Loserville before Golden you can mark that down, unless Al himself decides to leave.

Let's be clear. Petrino is a winner plain and simple. It will take him 2 years to weed out the players that can't handle his style and then he will have UL running strong.

I'm not sure I'd want him at Miami but the guy can coach.

I really like the thought of us scoring early and UL quitting. That could be a real possibility.

Well stated..and very accurate. This sentence bears repeating: "Many here don't realize how close we came to being a permanent non factor in the world of college football."

So many of the harshest critics act as if the NCAA mess wasn't really a big deal. The reality is between the program already having been eroded by Coker and Shannon, and then the NCAA issue which was a HUGE deal, this program very easily could have become an afterthought in college football. For all of the whining and crying by some fans, it was Golden and Shalala that worked their asses off to keep that from happening.

Not so sure his past success will predict his future success. The story is out on him. People know more about who he is and what he's like to deal with. He is not well liked by many players and parents. There is a difference between a stern, demanding coach, and a demeaning, degrading ******* with anger issues and an inability to work well with others. Just take a look at his recruiting so far this year....not going so well.

Grantham sucks...maybe even worse than D'Onofrio. Have you seen his defenses at UGA the past few years with great talent?
