That's something he's gonna remember and cherish the rest of his life.

Not many people throw perfect games, even at the college level.

Congrats Javi.

this is so great...
I have a great one...in 09 I went to the FGCU / Miami game in Fort myers and David Gutierrez pitched a perfect game thru 7 only throwing 80 pitches...Morris yanked him
the FGCU crowd was booing etc...the look on DGs face was like WTF....we won big but never understood that move...the kid was on fire
a scout there scouting chris Sale ( white sox starter ) for fgcu said in all his years he never saw a move like that...OH WELL..

So glad for Javi!!

Senior right-hander David Gutierrez tossed seven perfect innings and three Miami pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the 13th-ranked Hurricanes cruised to a 9-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.

Making just his second start of the season, Gutierrez (3-0) kept the first 21 FGCU batters off the bases through seven, inducing six ground-outs, seven strikeouts and eight fly-outs. Working on a pitch count, Gutierrez was then relieved to start the eighth after his pitch total had reached 84. Gutierrez's seven strikeouts was one shy of his career-high.

Reliever Eric Whaley tossed a scoreless eighth for the 'Canes, but allowed a hit-by-pitch, a single and a walk in the inning. Daniel Miranda came on in the ninth to retire FGCU in order and secure the one-hit bid.

Miami has now thrown 10% of the perfect games in NCAA history, two, but only 20 have ever been thrown.

What was the other one? The NCAA shows 22 perfect games, but not another one by a Miami pitcher.

Kevin Sheary - was on the 1985 NC team - threw it against So. Illinois. He's in the UM Hall of Fame.

Thanks. Strange. I'm going to contact whoever wrote that article for the NCAA.

I found the NCAA record book and it has zero perfect games thrown in 1987, which is when Sheary threw his. I wonder what the confusion is on that.
