Patrick Surtain jr.

I sea da pace of posts in this thread has slowed considerably. Folks finally realized Surtain ain't coming?

Some kids want to be Canes no matter what. Some don't.
Seems clear to me that he doesn't want to be a Cane. If he shocks the world, so be it, but he's talking about 4 visits in January and not one is with us...

Do yourselves a favor and forget Surtain's name. Pray we land Campbell, but don't hold your breath for that either. The defensive staff f'd things up royally this year.

Bandy is good. The same people criticizing him probably thought Jaquan Johnson wasn't good enough to start as recent as early this season. He's a quality nickel now and moving forward.

Delaney is (was) good. One minor technique lapse and he gives up a TD by an inch. That's the margin for error for DBs when the opponent is playing well. He will make an NFL roster as a press and/or cover 3 corner.

Jackson is a solid press corner with plus ball skills. All that needs to be said there.

Young has strengths and weaknesses. His size gets exploited when he doesn't have the length to contest box-outs, and he gives up in-breaking routes too easily for a smaller corner without makeup speed. He can be upgraded for sure.

Redwine straight up can't cover, takes bad angles in the run game and misses tackles. He's the weakest link by far.

Ultimately the biggest issue with this secondary is Diaz. The zone calls burn us every ******* time and he's too stubborn to give up on them. Even Brian Griese noticed and asked why Miami isn't playing man every down. With a front 4 that can generate pressure it's so obvious this defense should play 2-deep man 75% of the time or more with the odd blitz sprinkled in (20%) and save zone for the rare 3rd and 15+. The cover skills of these DBs is irrelevant until either this gets fixed or Diaz figures out how to coach the players to actually execute the zones he so badly wants to call. But the reality is Miami hasn't executed zone defense since Shannon was HC!

So now it’s not “ he grew up a LSU fan and he’s got family there”.......now it’s “ the better opportunity is at Bama” EVEN THOUGH the family is tight with Rumph and the kid was coached by Rumph.

This sounds to me like the old man doesn’t want his kids anywhere around Rumph when it comes to coaching his kid.

it may be that he looked at how our cb and db were being coached and compared that to lsu and alabama

can anyone honestly say that we coach up cb and db as well as alabaga?

Yes. The difference being none of our DBs would receive an offer from Alabama.

Another interview from Surtain where we don’t even get mentioned either he’s just gone shock everybody and pick us signing day or he’s definitely not coming. Said LSU leading but Bama is right behind them.

He isn't coming here

Don’t know why people keep thinking we have a chance. I don’t remember the last top recruit that did not even mention us or list is in his top 5 pick us. Just does not work that way.

Maybe it has nothing to do with any coach. Maybe they just don't like miami.

Lol a joke, how he see a better opportunity at Bama and not us. The day he walks on our field he would be a starter and he would still be close to home.

I don't think Miami gets that much respect from the local stars just yet. Most of these kids probably grew up clowning Miami. The U has been dormant for most of their lives except these past two years. Miami is heading in the right direction but the past decade did a lot of damage.

Maybe the most obvious answer is the right answer.... Rumph isn't good at recruiting. We've got sufficient data before Surtain and Campbell shoot us down. Those will just be the nail in the coffin.
