Let's assume the running game is as advertised--Duke goes for over a 100 yards and has some explosive plays, the supporting cast chips in and does well.

Do we win with the following at QB?

19-30
265 yards
3 TD
2 INT

I would think so. If our QB goes for 265 on 60% completions... with more tds than picks and Duke goes off for at least 100 I am guessing we have scored at least 35 points....... And obviously held the ball a fair amount on offense.. I think that would get it done.. but as with any game the stats do not always tell the whole story... Do we fumble two long Kick off returns? Do we create any turnovers of our own?

We will most likely have to score 35+ to win. With those numbers it would be very close.

Louisville has a freshman QB that is on par with the predicted starter. I see the starter getting yanked in the 2nd quarter after a bad start. Canes win by 10.

I guess my follow up question would be if y'all think one of our QB's is capable of that kind of performance?

I think Petrino is seriously being undervalued in this thread. He is a magician, with multiple upperclassmen WRs, and a reasonably good RB group.

The hope--the HOPE--should be we rail Grantham and his 3-4 switch. It should not be sophisticated enough to give our QBs fits, and they've faced it in some measure in practice. Plus, it's Grantham and Louisville's personnel isn't equipped or deep enough yet.

So my answer would be no. We need to, and fortunately should have a reasonable chance of, scoring in droves. Five hundred yards needs to be the floor, because their O will score, and score a lot, and their D should be woeful.

This man holds our hope (kinda):

Yes, those stats get it done.

And as a Cane fan, I'm going to channel my inner swag and say we stomp the **** out of them! My glasses are green and orange.. I like it that way.

Carter decapitates a WR in the first quarter...they get the hint...Canes win by 13.

14 yards rushing as a team
0-11 third down conversions
12-27 160 yds 0-0 passing

Surprised it wasn't 48-2

We get a 37-9 buttwhoppin in Fla and are only a 3.5 underdog in Louisville---- because no Bridgewater, new head coach, and a new def coord.? Go figure this could get real ugly because its almost last years team minus Teddy....Dyer vs Duke will be the indicator of who probably wins..

Bet it and post a pic.

By Dyer vs Duke, I take it you mean "Dyer vs Miami defense" vs "Duke vs Louisville defense?"

If our coaching staff's patterns are any indication of what we should expect, I'd have more faith in our defense in this game than I do at the end of the season. Their biggest issues seem to revolve around improvisation and adjustment(s). I think our defense looks reasonably ok for at least 1 half. I think Louisville still scores 24-30 points for the game.

I think it'll depend on whether we can score 31 or more. Without seeing our QB, I have no idea what to expect there.

They lose their best player, our best player will play this time, but yeah, almost the same.

No. Not in the first game not from heaps or kaaya. They may get close to those numbers cause ULs defensive coordinator sucks and switching to a 3-4 will have them lost.

But Petrino vs Dorito? I don't like that matchup. I do like our offense against their defense though.

I think our QB numbers will be better than that. Our offense will completely go off on Grantham's new defense. UL will be totally confused on defense, and our guys will be running free all over the football field. We'll score on STs too.

I disagree. I think Heaps could do it. Not because he has more ability than Kaaya, I just think that if Kaaya starts the coaches won't ask him to throw the ball 30 times, even if UL's defense tries to force him to.

I also think that highly of our TE's, WR's, and Duke out of the backfield.

Petrinos impact is being severally overrated. It's his very first game, they won't be clicking like a petrino offense right off the bat. If we played them at the end of the season or even in the middle I'd be worried about petrinos impact. It takes time for a coach to get his beliefs and philosophy throughout a program.

Non clicking Petrino is way better than the baffoons that have PWNED Golden in the last three years. I'm pretty sure he can figure out a way to roll up 500+ yards of offense against Dorito. Mike London, aka "Golden's Daddy" sure figured him out.

Maaaan F*CK that! If Miami is down by 2 at the half and ICE gives the remote speech, Louisville better not come out the locker room!!!
